1.02 rookie pick for DBowe and 1.05 pick?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

1.02 rookie pick for DBowe and 1.05 pick?

Postby jnormy » Fri Jun 25, 2010 9:39 am

Hi all! I've been reading DLF articles, rankings, etc. for a couple years now, and finally decided to dive into the forums!

Here's what I'm trying to figure out: I acquired the #2 rookie pick in a trade last year, plus I've got the 1.11. I definitely need the help at both RB and WR, lots of question marks... my roster's in my sig. Trying to decide what to do with that pick...

Choice 1: Assuming Matthews is picked first, I'm leaning Dez Bryant with the 2 and then maybe taking best available RB at 11 (Dwyer, perhaps).

Choice 2: I have the opportunity to get Dwayne Bowe and the #5 for my #2, in which case I'd gain a talented and established young WR with upside in Weis's KC offense, could pick either Ben Tate or Hardesty with the 5 (assuming the top 4 go Matthews, Bryant, Best, Spiller), and still go best available with the 11. I own Foster, so pairing him with Tate might make sense, although Hardesty's getting good buzz in Clev.

Any opinions on which scenario helps my team more? Or maybe another scenario that includes Best or Spiller at 2? (I just happen to think Dez has the most high-end upside and talent of this entire rookie class.)

Nice "problem" to have, I suppose, but I'm really having a tough time with this one. Thanks!

When looking at your league info and seeing that it is non-PPR and you can start up to 3 RBs (which if you have the talent would usually be the best option as opposed to any other setup), I would be targeting RBs rather than Dez. For that reason, I would take the Bowe trade and pick up him in addition to what most likely is your preference of Hardesty or Tate at 1.5.
Start: 2 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE (All TDs=6, 1 per 10 rush/rec, 1 per 25 pass, NO PPR) 8 teams
QB: Rodgers, Vick, Cutler, Schaub, Luck
RB: Rice, CJ, McFadden, Richardson, Stewart, Ingram, Spiller, Vereen
WR: Green, Marshall, Roddy, Jennings, Roddy, Bowe, Maclin, Britt, A Brown, Williams (TB), Collie, Smith (STL)
TE: Graham, Finley, F Davis, Cook
Taxi Squad: Tebow, Crabtree, Jeffrey, Hill, Gordon

I like the Bowe deal for your team.

Bryant is tempting but i would definitely make the trade. You get a young starting receiver in Bowe and you can pick a guy like Ben Tate at 1.05 who will come in and start right away for Houston. So you get WR and RB help.

Non-ppr and you can start 3 RBs I would take the trade. And I know you have Foster but I would personally take Hardesty

Choice 2 sounds like good strategy for your team!

On the surface I like the idea of acquiring a potential low end WR2/high end WR3 and maintaining the ability to draft one of the top 5 rookie talents...

However, I can't help but think of the train wreck that is Dwayne Bowe. He lives in Haley's doghouse, has a questionable work ethic, was suspended last season for taking performance enhancing drugs (I know that was last year but now he's one screw up from a bigger suspension), and he starts off this year telling the media that his teammates brought women up to their hotel rooms on the road - a refuted lie of course (sex scandal )...stupid is as stupid does! Does this other owner have another WR that you like? IMO he's trying to dump Bowe for the Bryant upgrade assuming like you that Mathews will go 1.01

I just think you can do better than Dwayne Bowe, especially if this other guy wants Bryant that bad. In a non-ppr would drafting Best @ 1.02 and then grabbing the best available WR @ 1.11 be a better combination for you in the long run? I'm not saying this is a bad trade offer, just explore other options before taking the deal.

Yea, I like it. Tate or Hardesty AND Bowe > one of J.Best or D.Bryant for you.

OK, I'm on the clock, first guy picked Matthews (no surprise) so it's decision time!

Leaning toward taking the trade of Bowe and 1.5 for 1.2. Still sounding good to most? (Sorry, I just need the reassurance here, lol.)

Thanks! Just curious, why Hardesty over Tate?
