Parker for JMatt? [POLL]

Postby Tahoe » Thu Sep 29, 2016 4:08 am

Need some advice! Who would you rather have and why?

I realize this is a bit of a player comparison, but the context of my team is important to take into consideration. Given my team (in sig), is it better to hang onto a high-ceiling guy like Parker or deal him for a known producer in JMatt?

For those who care, here are my thoughts:
- Parker:
  • -Has the ceiling to be a WR1, but may be limited by his situation behind a target hog in Landry and an average QB in Tannehill.
    - Seems to be a constant "questionable" dealing with chronic injuries, assuming he's not already out.
    - When he plays, the kid has proven he can produce.
    - Gase has shown his offense can support 2 WRs (Demaryius and Emmanuel).
- JMatt:
  • - (2) 1,000-yard receiving seasons before the age of 24 with guys like Foles/Bradford at QB.
    - Underrated in my opinion, but likely destined to be a high-end WR2 (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
    - Clear #1 option who has shown good chemistry with Wentz.
    - Speaking of Wentz, I like what I've seen so far, but will JMatt be limited by the offensive scheme?

I like Matthews more ,Standalone, and then especially if Wentz is the real deal now. Two 1000 yard seasons before age 25 is pretty big and I don think he's come close to his ceiling yet.

I value the long term value of WR, and I value Matthews more.

J Matt for me. While I agree that Parker has the talent and measurable to be a WR1 I just do not see him having that type of season that everyone expects. With Landry in Miami I really think his ceiling is about the same as that of JMatt. And when I look at 2 WR's whose ceiling is about the same I will side with the WR who is the clear number 1 on his team. Also as you have said JMatt has put up numbers with 2 guys who are barely marginal starters in the NFL, if Wentz is as good as his start and with the connection he has with JMatt I think high WR2 or Low WR1 numbers are where you will find him for years to come.

I would prefer Parker personally. I just don't see the high end WR2 with Matthews.

I know it's nitpicky but Matthews has not ever actually reached 1000 hards, he had 872 and 997. Of course neither has Parker, but I think Parker has a better chance of becoming elite.

Thanks for all the responses so far! It's definitely a close call between the two. Does having guys like Julio and ARob change anything? Like is it better to gamble on a guy like Parker or grab the consistency of Matthews with a rising QB to play week-to-week at flex?

I still don't get where people are coming from that Parker has a higher ceiling than Matthews? I mean I guess its all opinion but Matthews has had some monster games and his physical profile is as good as (better than most) anybody.

Amen. People love Parker because he's a high draft pick with elite measurables who hasn't yet disappointed us because he hasn't yet been healthy enough to do so.

Nitpicking a bit, but Jordan Matthews hasn't had a single 1,000 yard season in his career yet. He has gone for 872/8, and 997/8 (we can call that 997 season a 1,000 yarder though if we round up I guess)

I'm torn here. I like both. Matthews seems safer at this point but I think Parker is the better talent and has a higher upside - and actually appears to have a high floor when he's actually on the field.

If I had a roster that could afford to roll the dice and had depth at the position, I would probably take Parker. If I was competing but badly needed help at WR, I'd take Matthews.

It's incredible how similar they actually are, that's why I'm having such a tough time. Their measurables are essentially identical - same height (6'3"), weight (210), 40 time (4.45), and even arm length (33 1/4).

But does the fact that he hasn't disappointed us while playing injured mean something? He could be even better when he is fully healthy (if he is ever fully healthy, that is).

Parker may have more upside in a vacuum, but JMatt is the clear #1 WR on a team with a budding star at QB. Parker is the #2 option on his team with a QB who struggles with the deep ball, plus the dolphins are just perennially a mess in general. I like Matthews more

Matthews has been a high end WR2 for both years of his career. He's been solid so far this year. Yes he struggles with drops, not unlike Cooper, Evans, Brandon Marshall, DT, and many other fine WRs.

Parker was a high-upside WR3 last year down the stretch. He's been a WR2/3 so far this season (2 games). I think they could each take the leap and become 85-1200-12 guys, but give me the WR who's the clear cut #1 target on his team, and who's been healthier by far. And as mentioned above, it's worth factoring that Miami is a terribly-run organization. That does matter.
