Derrick Henry

Postby CurtisMyFavMartin » Sat Aug 06, 2016 5:39 am

I am looking for some solid analysis on Derrick Henry and figured this would be the spot to find it. From what I've watched from this guy, is that he is a solid down-hill runner with decent burst and can shed blockers nicely. Running behind an all-world offensive line at Alabama that carves out 3 yard holes for the guy to run through makes his job much easier and pads his stats up nicely. I just don't see the lateral athleticism required to knife through the holes in the NFL that will undoubtedly be smaller than college.
I ask all this because I have the 1.06 and if he falls to me there I know I'll be tempted to take the heisman winner but please, somebody talk me out of it lol. :wall:

He is first and foremost, an athletic freak. I dont think we've ever seen a rb that his his combine measurable at ~250 lbs.

Second, he was extremely productive in college denotes by two championships, one heisman and absolutely monster college dominator rating (bama ran their offense thru him last year).

Unfortunately, hes a protoypical boom bust player in my mind. He has hall of fame measurables and has dominated every level of football up to this point, but he could very easily also just be a plodder with bad hands. Sorry this probably doesnt help much lol

Reports are that he has very good hands. At the 1.06 I wouldn't worry about taking him as your other options really aren't that great. He'll be in a good situation, zone blocking, team on the rise, mobile QB, coaching insistent on pounding the rock. He has a good shot to be valued higher next season than this season.

Thanks man. That's a term I hear all the time, but I really don't know which teams use zone-blocking and which ones don't. I would think that scheme would make it easier for RB's to get big yardage easier, true?

This thread got me thinking...and I ended up trading Doctson for Henry and a 17 2nd. I know that seems like an overpay, but I really think the situation and talent is a fantastic fit for Henry to explode and possibly lead the NFL in TDs. I don't have faith in Murray to stay healthy either.

From what I am reading, he is off to a slow start in camp. If I were to draft him, it would be on the hopes he develops into a strong player next year. I really think the Titans are going to give Demarco every single opportunity this year. Then again, some might say that Demarco is done, so there is that.

He is Leonard Fournette with better measurables. Mark my words, this time next year everyone will be knocking Fournette because of his poor combine metrics. He's a steal as a mid-first this year.

Thanks guys. I ended up taking Henry at 1.06 and the jury is still out, but he did go bananas last night in his first NFL action. Granted it was a PRESEASON game, but he made some nasty cuts, broke a number of tackles and looked really difficult to bring down. I know it's early, but I'm happy with my choice :D

Henry seems like he could be that guy who is just physically superior to his opponents in HS and college, but then when he gets to the NFL, all of a sudden, everyone is big and strong and fast. I don't know if he will be a bust or not, but it just seems like it could turn out that way.

He did look good in the first preseason game though.

But he is bigger and stronger than many NFL athletes. Guy is a freak. He is going to bull doze linebackers and safeties for fun. I'm going to enjoy the ride. Get in while you can.

I can't really think of anyone else who wa an athletic freak over 250 at the RB position.

He's comparable more to Brandon Jacobs IMO. Jacobs lacked some of the lateral movement though.
