This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Calvin/Britt for AJ/2.04

Postby Misfit74 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:25 am

The offer is: I give Calvin/Britt for his AJ/2.04

Which do you like/what do you think? My team is built to win now, after adding Gates and Ray Rice this off-season already. I don't think Britt would start for me (ever), with my roster, below. It's a lot of age and a young promising rookie to give up, but it may make sense for my team.

[12-team PPR Dynasty, Start: QB, RB, RB, WR/RB, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF/ST]

QB:: Schaub, Henne, Garrard
RB:: ADP, R.Rice, Mendenhall, JStew, L.McCoy, Moreno, W.McGahee, M.Bell
WR:: Colston, Calvin, Chad Johnson, Austin, Britt, Massaquoi, Aromashodu, Doucet
TE:: Gates, O.Daniels
DEF/ST:: PHI, CIN
K:: Gostkowski

Given your team I like the AJ side. Although you are sending some good talent away. As long as AJ is in the field he is top 2....Calvin is a step down but the talent certainly is there.

Its really close but I personally wouldn't do it because I think Calvin makes the big leap to #1 this year over AJ. Any chance you could deal Colston instead?

I would keep Calvin too.

Perhaps Colston and Britt for AJ?

I don't know if he'd go for it. But, some people are really high on Britt and have Colston in the top 8. So..

Apparently, this guy does "not think Colston is a #1 WR". Also, Colston is not in his top-10 WRs, he says. Here is his top-10 as according to him:

aj

fitz

calvin
marshall
white

austin
vjax
jennings

crabtree

rice

those are my top 10

Given this info, doesn't the value of AJ or Calvin seem quite similar? I mean, is Calvin EVER outside of round 1 in dynasty drafts the past 3 years or so? In fact, there are probably some that have Calvin (age 24) ranked HIGHER than AJ (age 30 in July this year). Hmm.

I have AJ and Calvin neck in neck in my own rankings. The 5 year age difference is huge. And, lets be honest, Calvin is more talented than AJ and has done more than AJ did at this point of his career.

To this day, AJ has never had double digit TDs. Calvin had 12 his 2nd season. AJ had 12 TDs in his first 3 seasons combined.

I'm a huge AJ fan. I wouldn't own him still if I wasn't. But, those are the facts.

Calvin is a beast.

He's likely to end up being one of the best WRs of all time.

I can't argue with any of that, Kris. The one question I would ask, is that if you are close to a title run (win now mode) you can pretty much bank on 100-1500-8 from AJ. What can you expect from Calvin and a 2nd-year QB? Calvin hasn't produced a season, outside of TD production as you said, comparable to any of AJ's last two seasons. AJ is now in his prime.

AJ is where Calvin hopes to be someday: The past two seasons, AJ has 216 receptions and 3, 144 yards to Calvin's 145 receptions and 2,315 yards.

71 rec 829 yards difference is nearly another WR2 worth of production (not including TDs). AJ has done more in two seasons what Calvin has done in three.

I love Calvin, I'm just trying to get an accurate perspective here. More thought are plenty welcome. And, thanks for the feedback, so far.

AJ's 100-1500-8 to the bank, or risk Calvin reaching that this year, let alone ever. He has the ability, but will he reach his ceiling? And when?

id probably do it. Calvin is extremely talented but don't let the measurables get in the way of production. AJ produces and produces big time. Calvin with a 2nd year QB who is up and down may give you some big weeks but with AJ you get it every week.

Money league with a win now team - I'd take AJ to secure the money.

Non-money league or not a win now team in a money league, I'd keep Calvin and Britt. The past comparisons between AJ and Calvin are valid, but Calvin hasn't reached his peak with a young QB. Calvin will be better this year with Berrian on the other side and Best coming out of the backfield. Instead of Calvin getting triple teamed, he's looking at double coverage which he has the skills to beat.

Long term Calvin and Britt are a better value.

My team is built to win now. I won the title in 2008 and finished 3rd in 2009. I felt that the more consistent and elite production (19points/game or so) from AJ was worth the deal. Plus, I believe that I can replace Britt ably with the 2.04 or a different pick of mine. I'm not a huge fan of Britt's situation and the last 5 games of the season with VY throwing the ball, he really fizzled, causing a Britt red-flag for me. I love Britt's talent and prototypical tools, but he is hampered by the TEN offense and that has a decent chance of continuing. Furthermore, Britt would not start for my team unless disaster struck.

It was tough to part with Calvin, but I think this off-season of adding Gates, AJ, and Ray Rice in separate deals solidifies my team and puts me strongly in the title hunt once again. I did the deal and I'm happy I had a chance to land the #1 WR in my rankings for a fair price. Guys like that rarely come available. :D

You can probably take Damian Williams with the 2.04...
