Trade proposal - 2011 1st again

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade proposal - 2011 1st again

Postby pnt71 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:07 pm

Hi again!

I asked about this before - my 2011 1st round pick. I've taken the team over recently and I'm rebuilding. I have one owner, who is very determined to get my 1st round pick 2011, because I probably end last or second to last.

I got really good advice from you last time, and one of the things, I tried afterwards was to offer him my 1st 2011 for Jennings. He turned it down with a "no way". But he stayed away for a few days ;-). Now I have gotten a new proposal - and I need you to advice me again:

Here's my roster:
QB: Bulger, N. Davis, Delhomme, Sanchez,
RB: Gore, Coffee, Jacobs, Portis,
WR: Bennett, Chambers, Crayton, Evans, Gonzalez, Meachem, Stroughter, Sweed, Douglas, Robinson,
TE: Shianco, Lee

And the proposal:
I give: Gore, 1st 2011, I get: Jennings, 1st 2011.

I really need a stud WR, but if I trade Gore, I haven't got a decent RB...
He won his division last year and has a strong team again this year, so his pick could be 1.09-1.12, while my pick will be 1.01-1.03. The reason I consider the offer, is that some say it's time to trade Gore before this season, because his value will drop now that he soon turns 27. But is Jennings worth so much more, than Gore already?? I would think, their value is more or less equal...

His roster:
QB: Rodgers, Henne, Brohm
RB: Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Felix Jones, Choice
WR: Miles Austin, Marshall, Jennings, Rice, Bowe, Nicks, Royal, Robiskie, Holt, McKinley, Tate, Devin Thomas
TE: Davis, Olsen

Thanks in advance

You really can't afford to trade Gore without getting a RB in return.

Also, I'd rather have Gore than Jennings in general, so no way I'd also give what could be a high 1st next year for a low 1st next year.

The other roster is too good for you to do this deal imo, pass.

Trade Strategy

Postby dlf_kenk » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:32 pm

Have you read my article on the DLF home entitled "Going back to the future?" This coach is exploiting your receiver need by attempting to use generalized draft pick mindsets. This is a bad deal for you...

Thanks - I just had to be sure...

Now that he doesn't want to trade Jennings straight up for 1st round 2011, how much could I put in and still have a good trade. I'm not looking for a decent trade - it has to be good - else I would rather keep my pick for 2011.
1)
I give 2.06 2010, 1st 2011, I get Jennings

2)
I give 2.01 and 2.06 2010, 1st 2011, I get Jennings

3)
I give 2.01, 2.06, 2.10, 1st 2011, I get Jennings

Again - thanks for your advice

Edit: No, I will read the article right away, thanks.

I would hold on to the 2011 first rounder - it will have more value next summer after you do actually finish near the bottom - getting one WR this season is not going to improve your chances that much.

What I would do, however, is maybe target one of those players on the end of his bench, like Devin Thomas or Hakeem Nicks - but not including the future first in the deal. Maybe the 2.01 and 2.06 for one of them. Sell him on the opportunity of finding two more solid young WRs in the rookie class to replace the young player you are taking.

anyway, good luck.

Since you're clearly in rebuild mode and your first will be a very early pick in 2011, it makes no sense to trade it now. This is the time for really good teams to use the allure of a "first round pick" and trade their 2011 first which will be late, but bad teams should be holding on to their 2011 first.

imo, you never trade a future pick if you expect it to be top 3 until after the season. people keep wondering how i have been accumulating top picks every season, and its really that i just pry on guys like you. i look for teams have crappy seasons, then once i have my playoff lineup fairly set, i look to see what decent players that i can trade to that team that will make them better but not so good that they fall out of the top 4 picks. dont let the other owners steal a possible 1.01 from you.

Dang, that other team is stacked. How did he go about aquiring the #1QB, 2 of the top 4 RBs, 6 of the top 20 dynasty WRs, and the #1 dynasty TE????

That guy knows his stuff really well, and he's gonna know a trade where he comes out ahead and where he doesn't.

He doesn't even need Gore, but if you gave him away, it would basically just lower your scores each week. Sometimes the best strategy of a team that "has it all" is to aquire more of "it" so the rest of the teams in the league score even less.

I would counter him with deals that you know he won't accept. Do that to make a point that you know your stuff & you're not gonna get bully'd by the big guns!

Send him this trade, as it doesn't sound totally out of whack, but he probably won't accept it:

Felix Jones/Hakeem Nicks for your 2011 1st round pick & 2010 2nd round pick.

While I like Jennings better than Gore, I´d still keep the 2011 1st.
24 roster spots - 1QB,2RB,3WR,1TE,1Flex

RB: Breece,Walker,Taylor,BRobinson,Allgeier,Spiller
WR:Jefferson,Lamb,DJMoore,QJohnston,Jameson,MMims, T.Marshall,Shakir,Gallup
TE: Andrews,Conklin
DST:DAL
2024 picks: 1.11, 2.10, 4.01, 4.05, 4.07, 4.11

Thanks again, guys - I really appreciate your advice. I will keep the 2011 1st.

I have one last question about this - then I won't bother you anymore with this problem ;-)

Would this be a fair deal:
I give: Gore, Coffee, Mark Sanchez for pick 1.05, 1.06, Kevin Kolb.

I like Kolb and think the Eagles offense could be great in the future seasons, so If I made this trade, I would get (IMO) a starting quarterback (hopefully a future stud in a few years) and have the chance of finding two great prospects in the draft this year. This way I will be very much in rebuilding mode already this draft. I will solve my RB problem with another trade, if I can.

My problem is - will I get enough value for Gore and Sanchez in this deal. I actually like it myself.

Thanks agin for your advice

Now this is a good deal for your team. Take it!

2011 is the year of the future stud WR. Hold that pick and select your future Greg Jennings instead of being fleeced into trading for him today.
