Do you guys ever draft idps in the first round?

I traded a 2016 1st (likely 1.16) for 2.05 back in May. I used that to draft Shaq Thompson. Clowney went 1.09 last year, and Leo Williams went later this year.

No, nor will I. May be my settings/starting requirements, but I find offensive talent harder to find, and defender replacements easier. Find D can change more too with 4-3 to 3-4 transitions, while offensive talent can sustain.

Would your strategy change, if idps scoring were equal to O (telvin smith #14 over all in pts)

Also my league has a def flex.


Normally, i dont think id go idp in first rd. But Jack and jaylon have me intrigued. Bosa to a lesser extent.

Depends on the draft class, draft position, and where players end up post NFL draft. Too soon to say confidently whether I'd go against my stance.

I don't think right now I would take an IDP in the first simply because I don't feel anyone else would so even if it was the top guy on my board I could likely move back into the 2nd and still get him.

I think a lot of the issue is most leagues play a higher percentage of the viable offensive players than of defensive players putting offensive guys in short supply. For instance my one league starts 1 qb, 2 rbs, 3 wrs, 1 te, and 2 flex. This means outside of qb of the 5 starting skill positions on each team among the league each of thw 12 teams has to start 8.

On the other hand we start 3 lbs, 3 dbs, and 2 dls, so though we are starting 8 there as well there are 11 starting spots per nfl team to choose from so we are starting the same number of guys from twice as many starting options. I feel to make defensive players equal to offensive you would need twice as many IDP starters and points would have to be even.

One interesting thing I did note, however, was that during a startup last offseason one of the first 12 players from each individual class was an idp so that may hint at some value if you drafted the right one in the 1st

My league mates have drafted LBs and DE in the first round each of the past two years. What I failed to mention is that it is a 16-team format where you start 11 IDPs. That makes them valuable.

We start 11 IDPs too and guys do draft them in the first round but I never will again. I drafted Colin McCarthy in the first years ago, what a waste. I did reach for Telvin in the second a few years ago but that one has turned out well. Generally I start considering IDPs in the third.

I feel like if you had to start around 15 or 16 or so it seems like a lot but I think that is where IDPs would hit similar value to offensive guys in a league where you start 8 non qb offensive guys assuming points scored were close as well. I may try to start something along those lines this offseason but I feel it may take too deep of rosters for many people.

In my opinion, if you spend a first it had better be for the next JJ Watt or Keuchely. Usually we will have one guy reach in the late first for a LB. Our scoring is very even, and we start 2 des, DT, 4 LBs, 2 S, and 2 CBs. I don't go in rd 1, but I will spend a decent second on a LB, because those have 10 ppg potential in our scoring. The 2 times someone reached and took a LB ahead of me in the first, it's was Arthur Brown and Ryan Shazier. I took Alec Ogletree and CJ Mosely in the second both years. It's all about value. It would have been tough for me to spend a mid second last year, because of the depth with guys like Johnson, Strong, Duke, Funchess, Jameis etc going in that range. But if there aren't any skill players I think have a realistic shot, then I will go LB, because those guys are typically a lock to give you production.

I think this class is shallow enough on offense that high-value IDPs (league settings specific) could slot into the late first round of 14-team and larger leagues.

Don't sleep on Phillip ''Scooby" Wright, unfortunately his junior campaign was marred with injuries. Depending on his landing spot he could be the defensive steal of the upcoming draft.

He's one year removed from being the most decorated LB of the previous season.
