Outside of pass catching I think ajayi is head and shoulders ahead of the other backs in philly and I think eventually as he is a free agent at seasons end they will start to use him more and more heavily. I dknt think hes a terrible pass catcher but obvisouly not a star. I dont think sproles will stay healthy all season either and especially won't keep up the touch pace he seen last night. I like ajayi to be high end rb2 with weekly rb1 upside.

The weird thing about him never being used as a receiver is that he was a very accomplished receiver in college. Saquon Barkley is the only RB in the entire NFL that had a season with more catches than Ajayi had in a single season in college. Ajayi's career best was better than McCaffrey, Kamara, Bell, Gurley, etc.

He will be reliant on TDs and inevitably frustrate his fantasy owners.
I agree, he might just be the winner of week 1 break out to flop ha. I think he'll be similar to Jeremy Hill from 2016, average outside of a boat load of TDs

"What do we do with Ajayi?"

A bunch of league settings you won't read anyways....numbers and such

QB - A guy with only one or two good years left in the tank
RB1 - A guy who stands charged with several minor crimes (Guilty until proven, right?)
RB2 - Young guy that is only good because of his offensive line and workload
WR1 - A guy whose metrics make up for his stone hands
WR2 - A dude who is probably too short to catch the ball
TE - This guy played basketball, right?
DEF & K - I guess we are still doing this .. :wall: ...

So Ajayi didn't receive a single catch last night, but he was in on a lot of passing downs and did great job from from what I saw picking up the pass rush. I even saw one play action route where after taking a rush he looked back at foles, spotted a blitz, turned back around and picked up the blitz saving Foles' bleep. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel that most people that don't get used in the passing is because they have problems picking up the pass rush. That doesn't seem to be a problem, it just seems like they're trying to do right by Sproles.

What an interesting forum this has become.

As for Ajayi I never liked him at Miami as a player (Dolphins fan unfortunately) and that hasn’t changed one bit but he does hold value in Philly. It really depends if you believe his history of injuries or if you’re willing to accept them.

For me, I don’t like the player nor do I think he will be anything more than a decent flex play all year (when he is on the field)

I thought he was a buy this offseason; he's probably a hold if you're a contender and a sell if you're rebuilding.

I literally asked about his performance (eye test, beyond the numbers and stat line) last night as I got bored and wasn't paying much attention 2nd half when he finally got used. Did he get a few lucky breaks for the yards? Take what was given and look good? Miss holes? Boom/bust runs?

And it turned into this. Wow

He looked fantastic by the eye test -- better than his unsustainable-looking numbers would indicate. Happy to own him in one league where I'm contending. Ajayi was compared to Jeremy Hill earlier in this thread, but I can't see that at all. He played very well (except for one awful bit of pass protection) and gained more yards than given on just about every play. Looks to be the clear favorite for TDs until Wentz/Alshon return and the passing game can take off.

I am sure most people think comparing Ajayi to Hill means that Ajayi sucks because Hill sucks. I however have personally revised my opinion on Hill these past few years, and when a guy like Belichick takes an interest in a guy, and he sticks, that means something (as we've seen with D. Lewis, R. Burkhead, L. Blount and so forth), so to me comparing Ajayi to Hill isnt a negative (or vice versa).

I think my biggest concerns with Ajayi has always been his role. Last year for whatever reason, he seemed to have that Ryan Mathews between the 20s role, but loses out on goal line and receptions, but was being priced by a lot of owners as if he was guaranteed to be Todd Gurley (IE Id get offfers of give WR & 1st and get Ajayi). Basically it seemed like he was being given a specific type of role by the teams he was on, but every Ajayi fan felt he was a bell-cow (even when he wasnt).

Now based on Week I that may be changing. Maybe he's finally shown the Philly coaches that he can be what he wants to be (and what fantasy owners want), rather than just want they needed from him. I still dont think he's going to reach upper RB1 echelons but maybe perhaps he has a shot at Jordan Howard / Leonard Fournette level production rather than CJ Anderson / Latavius Murray production*. I am still sceptical but less so today than last week.

* - Yes I know Ajayi fans believe Ajayi is better than those 2 - but does it really matter if their production is identical? ;)
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..
