Think some context here is needed as well.

N'Keal Harry was a huge recruit -- 5 star guy, #1 WR in the class, #18 overall ranked national recruit -- and was a HUGE get for Arizona St, one of the best recruits they've ever had. Not only that but he played great for the school as well, putting up 82/1141/8 his sophomore year (before Aiyuk came in).

It would be asking A LOT for a JUCO transfer to come in and supplant Harry his first year in the program and Harry's last year at the school.

Interesting side note about Aiyuk -- Alabama actually wanted him to come in as a CB.
Yeah, I wonder what Harry could do in a system like SF's.

I was high on Aiyuk before the draft. I traded Brees for Aiyuk as I wasn't happy with my roster and decided to do a rebuild. Looking like I made the right decision so far.

Why do people care who someone “couldn’t beat out” in college lol offensive schemes / philosophies are at times completely different to the NFL.

Harry’s game was successful in college, it isn’t in the NFL.

Aiyuks game was successful in college and it translated.

Isn’t the first time that’s happened and certainly won’t be the last.

Just like fading Claypool because he couldn’t beat out Boykin who sucks in the NFL.

Yeah there really shouldn't be any shame in not being able to beat out a player who was amazing in college just because what they did to beat college secondaries doesn't translate to the NFL.

I can't believe I didn't try to trade up for him. I can only imagine if the Packers had this guy opposite Adams instead of mediocre Love on the bench....

Easy there. Mediocre implies hes average. Hes not that yet

Worst draft pick I can remember. Not that there aren't catastrophic busts before or that Love will bust, but just terrible call by a team in the running for a SB.

I listened to a podcast the other day that questioned whether Aiyuk was a sell high this offseason. Citing 'Kittle being back' and large part of his production coming with 'Deebo out of the lineup'.

I don't feel like this past dud was an indication of things to come. He also produced in the one game I believe Deebo played the whole thing. Could be mistaken on that.

But I think this is one you have to look at the box score a little bit. Beathard did nothing but check down to RBs and hit Kittle 4 times. Dude completed 13 passes, and TWO of those were to WRs. It could be argued that this sort of game plan may just be the SF offense more often than we'd like for a potential stud receiver.

Probably been mentioned in this thread or elsewhere, but I think he and Deebo can/will co-exist in this kind of offense, assuming competent QB play.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I feel like with the current way the offense is run, Jimmy G and Kittle... Any other pass catchers ceiling is fairly limited. Aiyuk and Deebo are both talented but Kittle is practically Adams in terms of target share. It may be hard to rely on another pass catcher in this offense. Low WR2 or 3 numbers though? I could see that.

Now, I went to look at SF pass Yards/game and they are actually top half of the league in which surprised me. Maybe that revolves around the losing season and them playing catchup in most games? That probably changes with the defense getting healthy next year.

Regardless, the situation around Aiyuk will be changing quite a bit. Different QB? Deebo could stay healthy? Defense will be healthier. Full year of Kittle? So many questions marks around this team due to all the variables this year. I would think the run heavy style would still be their go-to, offense will still be middle of the road and Kittle will reel in 25-30% of the production. About 15-20% go to the RB, then it's the question of whether Aiyuk and Deebo split the remaining or if it's spread out even more. Deebo staying healthy could remain the biggest X factor for Aiyuk (outside of Kittle).

Hes shown enough for me to hang onto. His value isn't high enough for me to get a premium 1st back, and I'll keep him for a late 1st for his potential. The offense could look much different if they get an above average qb.

This is a fair assessment of value. Like the talent, doubt you get enough to move on to another rookie. He's a hold unless someone overpays or gives you another position of need

Can’t really read too much into his week 16 stats with Kittle, high ankle sprain on the third play of the game.

Woulda been nice to see them play together.

Ugh, started him over Evans in the finals and lost by 7. I'm trading him!

I did make that move, and did lose, but all kidding aside I'm keeping Aiyuk for sure! Great offense to be in. Kittle is great and will get his, but Aiyuk might be the best WR they've had in Kittle's time in SF, and they'll use him plenty...
