I consider his “character issues” as a single data point the same way I’d look at a slower than expected 40 time …. Something to consider but not a deal breaker if I like the player in other aspects.

Specifically to Boutte, if he is available late first then I think he’s a steal. I’d take him 1.06 or later in a snap.

I think that’s a credible line of thinking. I certainly am not a Brian Kelly fan either and feel that he is vastly overrated as a HC.

I also see Boutte as a high risk/high reward guy, but he’s one of the few in this draft who between physical attributes and apparent skills and talent has the potential to be an alpha WR. The downside is real though if the past year was not an anomaly.
I don't follow college football vert closely in season. Curious your thoughts here.
Kelly has coached at Central Michigan, Miami and Notre Dame before LSU. He left each school abruptly (skipping bowl games) and not in the most professional way each time. Nobody misses him and he won games when he was at each stop. He is appears pretty selfish and has no loyalty.
I didn’t follow Central Michigan at all, but it was Cincinnati, not Miami. I don’t recall him leaving Cincinnati being viewed all that negatively. He coached there for four years and got a clear promotion. He really set them up on a positive trajectory as well. A lot of credit goes to solid hiring from the AD, but not sure how you argue he wasn’t a part of their turnaround.

He was at Notre Dame for 12 years, and yes, coming in after Charlie Weis can make anyone look like a genius, but he really did manage to return Notre Dame to relevancy. Not sure how you question the loyalty of a guy who worked one job for 12 years. Yes, he left weird, but not sure how you move from Notre Dame to anywhere without it being weird. Notre Dame thinks they’re top tier, so the idea that anyone would leave for another school because its better is insulting to them. Not sure why the school would even want him coaching the bowl game after they learned of his departure.

Now, that doesn’t mean I’m writing off Boutte. Not sure I love Kelly’s record on receiving talent, but he’s still a pretty successful coach.

Arrested for making nearly 9,000 illegal bets while at LSU. He's probably droppable.

Kid bet on himself (sometimes) and lost... career over!

I have him on one roster. There's no way he makes the cut once we draft our rookies. Droppable in all but the deepest of leagues.

He bet the over on his receiving yards against Florida State and went way under

It's over. We'll talk about him like we talked about other pre draft fallers. Red flag after red flag

Would have loved to hear his conversations on the sidelines and in the huddles on that day.

We could really start a new thread specific to gambling players. There is no shortage of them. Lol

Funny story about Boutte, in my Devy league, one manager kept pestering me for Josh Jacobs in August/September 2022.
All of his offers were weak.
So finally I made an offer of Jacobs for Kayshon Boutte and Sean Tucker, two highly thought of prospects in September 2022.

Other manager smashed decline, saving me from embarrassment.
How quickly prospects rise and fall.

Wait, name that deep league he isn’t droppable in? He is going to spend more time in jail than on a field.
