Re: Who are the most talented RBs in the NFL right now?
that'll happen when there's constantly 9 in the box, no threat of a passing game and jeff fischer is your coach running a grade school offense. Gurley has mad talent and we're starting to see it already in 2 games with only marginal improvements to the passing game so far. I agree with the guy who had him above everyone else TBH but figured I'd get roasted for saying that.Valhalla wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 12:19 pm I don't get the continued Gurley love as one of the best. Re: Who are the most talented RBs in the NFL right now?
Todd Gurley faced 8 in the box on 26.3% of non-RZ attempts against 8 in the box compared to Melvin Gordon's 33.2% despite Gordon having a much better offense. Gurley finished with the second worst YPC vs. 8 man fronts with 2.94, Gordon had 4.69 YPC, sixth best. There wasn't much of a difference between their OLs, although Gordon's was slightly better at pass protection but that doesn't explain the huge difference in production, especially factoring in Gordon playing against more crowded boxes, so you can't really lay the blame solely on OL/stacked boxes/poor passing game, Gurley himself just wasn't good last year.mclilj wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 12:44 pmthat'll happen when there's constantly 9 in the box, no threat of a passing game and jeff fischer is your coach running a grade school offense. all of those statistics are pre-snap and mean nothing. Gordon most likely ran against safeties and corners in the box to matchup against charger weapons. answer the question, are you more scared of rivers or goff. britt or tyrell Williams. gates/henry or higbee?

Re: Who are the most talented RBs in the NFL right now?
The Chargers passing offense is definitely way better, I already mentioned that, still doesn't make sense as to why Gordon played against so many stacked boxes, his was the 5th highest % of stacked box carries in the NFL, you can't explain that away with safeties and corners.ImaRounder wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 1:23 pm all of those statistics are pre-snap and mean nothing. Teams were clearly more worried about Rivers and the Chargers receivers than Goff/Keenum and the Rams receivers, they were also clearly more worried about Gordon than they were Rivers and the Chargers receivers.
Also, "Gordon most likely ran against safeties and corners in the box" do you have anything to back this up? Or do you think this is true because you want it to be true?

I looked at this thread title and immediately thought this would end up another Gurley thread.
This place is too predictable.

That's hilarious.
In my opinion it's Shady and then everyone else. Literally put him in any other place where a RB is or isn't producing, Dallas, Pitt, LAR, CLE and he will produce more than who is currently there. Yes, I do mean over Bell, Zeke, and anyone else you name. OBVIOUSLY better than Gurley

So if those stats are to be believed what you are saying is that when facing a non-stacked box defense, Melvin Gordon could only manage 3.50 yds per carry. That's scary bad!StableOfRBs wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 1:12 pm

Re: Who are the most talented RBs in the NFL right now?
Well those are only non-RZ attempts, Gordon faced a lot of stacked boxes inside the RZ that lowered his overall YPC for the season, per Pro Football Reference Melvin Gordon had 50 carries inside the RZ (29 of them inside the 10) with a YPC of 1.9 over all of them, he averaged 4.6 YPC everywhere else on the field. Which, if my math is correct (feel free to double check it), means he averaged 4.56 YPC on all non-RZ carries that weren't against 8 men in the box, like 136 carries, again, if my math is correct.Reljac wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 4:36 pmSo if those stats are to be believed what you are saying is that when facing a non-stacked box defense, Melvin Gordon could only manage 3.50 yds per carry. He did not play in a November Thursday game.

I will say I assumed when this thread started it would breakdown into a Gurley vs. Gordon argument again with people referring to obscure stats to defend. To throw a little fuel on the fire though, here are the two running trees that were available on your Next Gen Stat sight for Gurley and Gordon for 2017.. it was Gordon's week 1 and Gurley's week 2.

Re: Who are the most talented RBs in the NFL right now?
Well to be fair there's nothing obscure about stacked boxes or YPC, also you're comparing an RB playing against the Denver defense and an RB playing against the Redskins defense, that's not really the same wheelhouse and also a really, really small sample size.Reljac wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 5:38 pm I will say I assumed when this thread started it would breakdown into a Gurley vs. Gordon argument again with people referring to obscure stats to defend. I would like to see RBs ranked assuming everyone gets to run behind the Dallas Oline. I think guys like Bell and Zeke have been very fortunate to run behind such great talent.
