What to do with 1.01

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

What to do with 1.01

Postby JordanSchultz2332 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 12:34 am

16 team league that is adding four starting IDPs for the first time next season. (1DL, 1LB, 1 DB, 1 Flex). I am in a mode where I could potentially make a run this next season. I made playoffs but crapped out once I got there. Luckily, I made a trade earlier this year that has turned into the 1.01. My RB's are Morris, Ryan Mathews, S-Jax (if he comes back), Devonta Freeman, the rest I probably won't keep, so I have a glaring weakness there.
My question is, do I use that 1.01 to take a Gordon/Gurley, or with the addition of IDP's do I take one of the top IDPs like Kuechly or Watt?
16 teams, 25 Roster Spots-
1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 TE, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB (adding IDPs with this rookie draft)
PPR, 3 points for 300 yard passing/100 Rushing-Recieving, 2 pts. for 40+ yard TD's otherwise standard scoring.
Potential keepers (10 this year, 15 every following year after expanding rosters and adding IDPs.)
QB - Tannehill
RB - A. Morris, D. Martin, R. Matthews, D. Freeman, S. Jax, J. Randle, K. WIlliams
WR - Dez, J. Gordon, Michael Floyd, John Brown, M. Lee, R. Streater
TE - M. Bennett, C. Clay
Valuable draft picks 1.01, 1.05, 1.15, 3.01, 3.13, 4.04, 5.02, 5.12, 5.13

It depends on scoring. In my IDP league Watt was the highest scoring player this season at any position.

WR: AJ, Gordon, Benjamin, M Bryant, Jennings, C Hogan, Austin, Dobson, Janis, D Carter, C Washington

Team #2: 12-team, (1 QB 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex, K, DEF), PPR (0.5/1/1), 25-player roster

QB: Ryan, Bridgewater
RB: Forte, Ellington, Forsett, Hill, Bush, Taliaferro, Cunningham

With those RBs I think you should take Gordon/Gurley depending on who ends up in a better situation.

Agree with the question on what is the scoring system. If its sack heavy (at least twice as many pts for a sack as a tackle), then Watt may very well be your first choice. If its tackle heavy 2 pts tackle 1 pt asst and only 2 pts for each sack, that diminishes Watts positional advantage. If they don't award assisted tackles, that diminishes all IDP. As for Keuchly, there are lots of good LB out there and since you only need 1, I'd say no on that.

I would go with the rb. Your only starting 1 at each position so idps dont really hold alot of value in your league. There will be good players on the ww even during the season. Watt would be tempting but rb is a tuff position to fill in a 16 teamer.
12 team, ppr,idp league. 35 man roster, 5 ts.
Start- qb,2-3rb,3-4wr,1-2te,pk, 2-3 dl, 2-3 lb, 2-3 db
Scoring- all tds 6 pts, lb&db 2/t, 4/sack. Dl 3/t 5/ sack

QB- luck, tannehill, mallet
RB- spiller, sproles, mathews, ingram p thomas, woodhead, f jackson, k davis, freeman
WR- brandon marshall d thomas, cobb, amendola , bolden, landry, bryant, watkins, carter
TE- Olsen, reed, ertz, housler, escobar
PK- Vinatary
DL- , quinn, dunlap, hankins
LB- Kueckly, bowman, greenway, v miller , ogletree, bostic, kirksey
DB- Beathea, weddel

To give you some idea of IDP value, here's my league scoring:

Sacks: 2
Tackles (a): 1
Tackles (s): 2
Passes Defended: 2 for DL, 1 for all others

DL:
DL1 (Watt): 18ppg
DL2 (JPP): 14ppg
DL16 (Suggs): 10ppg

LB:
LB1: 17.6ppg
LB2: 17.13ppg
LB16: 12.71ppg

DB:
DB1: 15.54ppg
DB2: 13.97ppg
DB16: 11.7ppg

____

So my point is simply this...

JJ is worth the 1.01 almost regardless of scoring. He's been the DL1 for three straight years and only in 2013 was it REMOTELY close. Don't draft LB or DB...

Very interesting, this league is going sacks 3, solo 2, assisted 1. Thanks for this breakdown.

If I calculated this correctly, that means JJ Watt would have 299.5 points right now. Which based on one of my leagues, that would have been good for the 15th highest scoring player overall. Higher than Le'Veon Bell, Demarco Murray, DT, Stafford, Jordy, Gronk, and others. So yeah I would say he's worth 1.1 in this format. This is based off 6 points per passing TD so if your league has lower scoring for passing TDs than Watt would be even higher (the 14 players ahead of Watt in this scoring, are all QBs except for Antonio Brown)

JJ would be in contention for a 1st round startup pick with these numbers.
