Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I have been offered the 1.10 in my 10 team PPR league for my 2014 1st. I am tempted because I have a very competitive team, and I figure getting a player this year will allow him to be 1 year closer to contributing than someone I pick, likely with a late 1st next year. Thoughts?
Re: Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I'd wait until after the NFL draft and take a look. Next years is supposed to be stronger, though this year is still pretty deep and you'd get the full year more out of this pick.
Re: Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I think it's a pretty bad trade. Assuming the talent in the drafts will be roughly similar the only way your pick is the 1.10 is if you win the league this year. Otherwise he'll be getting a higher pick but a year later. The 1.10 is probably not going to help you win this year.

True. Does anyone know if there are draft pick charts, like used in the NFL, that show the value of draft pick trades in various rds. for the current year, and with the ability to compare it to future years picks. Thought I heard of a concept used, I believe by Jimmy Johnson when he was with the Cowboys, where for example a 2nd rd pick this year is similar in worth to a 1st next year. The difference in the value was, I thought, because you were getting a player now, and it therefore helps your team sooner, either through immediate impact, or through the player being 1 year further along in development. Not sure if this applies to fantasy though. Interesting concept nonetheless. Thoughts?TommyL31 wrote:I think it's a pretty bad trade. Re: Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I know several owners who use this loose guideline: each round this year is worth one higher round next year.
So, a 2013 3rd rounder would be worth a 2014 2nd rounder, and a 2013 2nd rounder could net you a 2014 1st rounder.
I find these values especially valid during the draft. For instance, if a valued player is dropping in the draft and slips into the mid-2nd round - if an owner really wants him, then the player is definitely worth a future first round pick.
In your situation, I would ask the owner if he wants to wait until during the draft to make that trade. Then, if a player you want looks to be dropping to 1.10, then make the trade. Of course, you risk that you are not the only person he is marketing that pick to.
Overall, I think it is a fair trade, so if you think having a late first round pick this season added to your assets is a positive move for your franchise, then make the trade.
You can always worry about getting back into the first round of the 2014 draft next year at this time.

Good suggestion, and I appreciate the guidelines you mention ie: 2013 2nd rounder worth a 2014 1st as this validates what I was thinking. I also take a similar philosophy regarding the draft for next year ie: you can see where your team sits after this year and can get back into the first next year, or through trade during the 2013 season get back into the 1st rd of 2014.meineymoe wrote:I know several owners who use this loose guideline: each round this year is worth one higher round next year.

I am confused. I need more than the 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st, is this what you mean?kellysheroes wrote:no point, u need a little extra unless your positive it'll be a top 4 pick
Re: Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I go by a 2nd this year is equal to a first next year.... I will usually take a chance by trading the 10th or later into next years draft in case someone has a bad year. the odds are in your favor that it will be higher next year

Re: Offered 2013 1.10 for my 2014 1st.
I have a team that is back-to-back winner in PPR and I got offered 1.9+2.8 for my 2014 1st+2nd.
IMO late 1st and 2nds this year are equivalent in value to 2014 picks. 2014 has a few elite players, but not a lot of RB depth, which is what you hope for in late 1st.
So I had no major issues going for extra picks this year. Or hoping to sell high OTC this year. Pick will only get more valuable between now and May.
If your team is good good I would go for it.

You have a pretty solid group there and could easily make that a late 2014 draft pick.
