One catch eleven yards. What should Arizona do next season to adress this problem. They have the defense to compete but the quarterback position flat out sucks. It's sad seeing Larry like this. What a waste. He is now my bye week fill in until something changes. Sad.

First thing they need to do is address their offensive line. They could have Tom Brady back there and Larry would struggle because Tom would be out injured too.

Second they need to get a decent back up for Kolb or some competition. It sounds like Ryan Fitzpatrick may be done in Buffalo and with Kaepernick blowing up last night I would be Alex Smith's time in San Fran is coming to an end. Either of those would be a vast improvement over Skelton.

This is what loyalty gets you. Fitz is as loyal as they come, and showed his appreciate to AZ by re-signing there even knowing they had no QB at the time, or no plans on addressing one. They should have been trying to jump Miami for Tannehill, Tanny over Floyd makes them twice as good right now and fighting for a wildcard. Now he's stuck, and unless a miracle happens they will be middle of the pack. Picking in the late teens, missing out on all the QB's, and no QB's in FA. Hate to see a HOFer like Fitz get suck with crap at QB and waste away his best years, it's just sad at this point.

I can't see how they can acquire anything but oline and qb help. I actually thought Kolb was starting to find his rhythm before he went down.

The Cardinals are an example of what's fundamentally wrong with many NFL teams- coaches are generally bad at evaluating players, but for whatever reason are allowed to make personnel decisions. It'd be considered absurd in any other sport- imagine Joe Girardi telling Brian Cashman to sign Josh Hamilton and actually getting his way. There are tons of coaches who can't even do simple things like manage timeouts or decide when to go for it/kick/punt, let alone decide whether or not it's worth trying to move up in the second round. NFL GMs should typically be given more power- outside of NE, the best teams (PIT, BAL, GB, NYG) are all run primarily by the GM. (Andy Reid, interestingly, is a much better GM than he is a coach.)

Think of it this way- the parity in the NFL is no better than in any of the other 3 major sports except for maybe the NBA, even though A) They have the only true hard cap, B) there's such limited FA movement that players picking destination cities isn't a big deal like it is in basketball, and C) there's no draft lottery. The problem is that the gap between the smart teams and the dumb teams that let coaches like Whisenhunt screw things up is so large that it overwhelms all the built in parity factors, as opposed to in baseball where at least 20 teams are on roughly the same page analytically. If a baseball GM had made a decision akin to the Derek Anderson over Leinart one, or the awful Kevin Kolb trade, he'd have been fired while fans called for his head. Whisenhunt insists on getting Kolb, decides he doesn't like Matt Leinart even though he makes more sense for the team, and you end up with this mess.
