Dynasty Roster Size - 10 Tms.

Postby Puchicas » Tue Apr 24, 2012 4:06 am

Subject says it all. Right now, we have 10 teams and roster sizes of 16 with 9 starters. This means we have a sizeable amount of otherwise rosterable players/prospects on waivers. What size rosters would you recommend for a 10-team dynasty league?

Thanks.
Year 2 | 12-Team | 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2Flex(RB, WR or TE) | 1/2 PPR

QB TLawrence, KPickett, MRyan
RB McCaffrey, Dobbs, KWalker, Penny, Michel, Evans, JJackson
WR Chase, Samuel, Sutton, EMoore, Aiyuk, Mooney, Tolbert
TE Kittle, Jonnu, OJHoward, Trautman

'23 Picks: 1, 2, 3, etc.

Note: Empire league (Consecutive championships wins prize pool and league resets)

For your league I would recommend rosters of 25 or 30

I'd go 25 as a minimum.

I have the exact same questiogn & apologize for starting a new post. Can some of you more experienced to dynasty give the the pros of having 25-30 as opposed to 20-25.

I'm also planning on holding the draft before the preaseason gamers. Is this common in dynasty leagues?

I have a 10 team which has gradually expanded from 22 to 24 players. Even at 24, it is impossible to keep all the players you want. Guys like Gronkowski, Demaryius Thomas, Jordy Nelson, Sproles, etc. were dropped at some point in the past 2 years. Ryan Williams was dropped as soon as he was hurt. 3rd round picks are greatly devalued because most teams don't have roster space to keep them. Even 2nd round picks have minimal value. Some of the best aspects of dynasty are muted because you don't have roster space to hold and develop players. The waiver wire has both short term startable players and long term upside, which limits the need to trade.

That said, roster management can be an interesting part of the game, after you adjust to the fact that the guy you just spent a top 15 pick on might be droppable because he's not getting reps right now (last year, Hankerson and Cobb fit this bill).

25-30 makes it so the draft is more important than having the #1 waiver claim. If your guys want the draft to be uber-important, keep raising the number of roster spots.

My 10-team league is in my sig and we use 22-man rosters. As the commish, I've been trying to expand, but it's been a tough road to get it there. Some guys love the fact that they can pick up players on waivers. If I had all-controlling power I'd move it to 26.
10-team, Superflex, PPR, performance, 25-man roster
QB(Start 1-2): L.Jackson, S.Darnold, D.Carr
RB(2-3): J.Mixon, M.Mack, C.Edwards-Helaire, J.Taylor, J.K.Dobbins, A.J.Dillon, Z.Moss, L.Miller, , Ja.Williams, G.Bernard
WR(3-4): D.Hopkins, A.Cooper, A.Theilen, K.Golloday, C.Davis, L.Fitzgerald, Z.Pascal, M.Boykin
TE(1-2): D.Njoku, D.Waller
'21 - 1,4

Thanks for the addvice. I definitely want the draft to be very important & reward teams that draft well as opossed to teams that just pick up players off waivers. I'm now thinking in the range of 24-26 & adding another wr position.

I thought drafting before the preseason would add a little interesting wrinkle but I see that most wait as long as possible. Still may have it before but now I'm 50/50.

Thanks again

I love 2 QB and 2 TE from a challenge standpoint. It brings a whole new dynamic.

My league in sig is 21 roster spots. And just as the above has described, the waiver wire has become far more important than the rookie draft. We only do 2 rounds and very few of those 2nd rounders and even some of the 1st rounders are dropped within a few weeks of the start of the season.

Prospects and developmental types are basically impossible to roster...especially if you already have a solid team with good depth as I do. I'm almost positive I won't be using my 2nd round picks and maybe not even my 1.10. Only the top handful of prospects are even rosterable which, I think, takes the fun and skill out of dynasty.

I'm trying to convince my league mates to up the roster size from 21. We'll see what happens.

Waay too small for a dynasty league IMO.

For a true dynasty experience, I believe roughly 300 players should be rostered. That means rosters of roughly 25 in a 12 team league or 30 in a 10 team league.

I have decided to go with a roster size of 26 and plan on holding my draft after the preseason. So my next question is about # of teams in the playoff for this 10 team league. I am thinking the top 4 make the playoffs. I am a little biased becuase the past two years in my regular league i have finshed as the regular season winner only to be knocked out in the championship one year & the semis the next by the #8 seeded and last team in. What are your thoughts? Thanks again

4 teams making the playoffs in a 10 team league is my preference.

I am in a 10 team league - you need 30 players per team and you can have 4 or 6 teams make the playoffs but I would strongly suggest implementing the playoff finish determines the final draft order...the 4 teams that don't make the playoffs get first 4 picks, the teams that do qualify are set in the order of playoff record/finish!
