First startup in years. how'd I do?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

First startup in years. how'd I do?

Postby Astrangeone » Wed May 22, 2024 3:53 am

So I took a few years break from dynasty, and I came back last season. I just had my first startup draft in 6 or 7 years, and was hoping to get some criticism or advice from more knowledgeable folks.

How'd I do?

12 team SF, 2rb, 2wr, 2 flex, 1 te
Full ppr and 6pt per passing td

Qb: Allen, Love, Minshew
Rb: Gibbs, Etienne, Achane, Pacheco, K Miller, Corum
Wr: Addison, JSN, R Rice, M Mims, M Wilson, R Wilson, L McCaffrey, B Rice
Te: Kincaid, Musgrave, Fant

Thanks for your time.

I love your QBs..

Great RB with depth

I would’ve probably targeted WRs before RBs though. You don’t have a #1 here but I’m high on both Addison and JSN. I like the Roman Wilson pick. Pittsburgh does good with them Day 2 WRs

Absolutely love Kincaid. I think he finished the year as the #1 TE

Looks Like you went RB at first, in a startup I probably went WRs but each our own. You have very good QB/RBS and weaker at WR very good at TE IMO, I give it a very solid A-
16 teamer
QB T Law, R Wilson
rb- Mixon,pollard, J Hill, conner,
WR-Chase,Lamb,T Hill, R Bateman, C sutton, boyd
Te Kelce, Waller, Fant,Evertt,
1qb,2-3rb,3-5wr,1-2 TE
Full IDP

I wish you had gotten a legit QB3, but everything else is good. In a start-up, a team usually has to sacrifice one position and you waited before drafting WRs, so that's your weakest position. In the end, Given your strengths at the other positions, I think your WRs are good enough to support a good run this season and provide a good foundation going forward.

A-
TEAM 1:
12 Team ppr w/20 keepers - start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1FLX 6IDP 1DEF

IDP:(LB) Bolton, DLloyd; (DE/DL) Sieler; (S/CB) Pitre, Bates
2023 & 2022 Champion: 2020 third place: 2019 Champion

TEAM 2:

As others have said, pretty good. Like the QB room. Tons of RB depth, but would prefer at least one stud at WR. Any chance you could flip a Addison/JSN and a RB (Achane/Pacheco/Miller) for an uptier at WR?
10 Team, PPR, 27 roster: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 FLEX, 1 DST, 1 K
QB: Patrick Mahomes, Jordan Love
RB: Jonathan Taylor, Kyren Williams, Devon Achane, Derrick Henry, Jaylen Warren
WR: CeeDee Lamb, DJ Moore, DK Metcalf, Drake London, Tee Higgins, Hollywood Brown, Ricky Pearsall
TE: George Kittle, Brock Bowers, Pat Freiermuth

Picks:
2025: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th
2026: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th

12 team start 9 makes me want to consolidate as much value whenever possible.

Qb: Allen, Love, Minshew

Solid. Definitely want to improve QB 3 here but for a startup and a compete now team it's good.

Rb: Gibbs, Etienne, Achane, Pacheco, K Miller, Corum
Looks solid. I'd be fine looking into moving achane if someone overvalued him but given it's after a draft his value is likely established. Looks like a good compete now group with some youth with miller, corum, and achane to some extent.

Wr: Addison, JSN, R Rice, M Mims, M Wilson, R Wilson, L McCaffrey, B Rice

Yikes. Well I see why your other position groups are so good. I want to acquire some vet wrs here. Evans, Adams, hill, nuk, Kupp could be good vets at different values that you could get.

Te: Kincaid, Musgrave, Fant

Awesome.

Thanks for your time.

No problem.

Overall, your team is a compete now team with some gaps at wr. What do your picks look like? I think you can start the season as is, but I would try to get some vet wrs for cheaper at some point. I'd gladly trade future years picks for it.

Thanks y'all! Seems the consensus is I need to grab an established wr1 and I'll be potentially golden.

I have all my draft capital for the next 3 seasons, so I will try and follow Abloom's advice and grab a cheapish vet that way first. Thanks again!

Not a fan tbh.

Like other folks have said already, you should be fine at QB1/2 and RB. Minshew is obviously trash. I don't like the receiver group or the TEs at all.

Good luck.

Good team, great QB's and RB's. Probably can't compete with that WR room, but everyone builds their own way.
I tend to save RB's for the last piece of the puzzle, since their shelf life is shorter and more injury prone position, but on the bright side, you got an early pick and took Josh Allen.

That's always been my failure, I can never seem to draw a pick higher than 1.08 in a SF dynasty startup draft. :wall:

Different than how I approach start-ups, but it looks like a fun team to roll out in '24. If R.Rice is productive, I think you have a good shot.
