Premium RB’s Worth The Price Tag
Have contemplated sending a multitude of first rounders (3 of them) for bijan and am now starting to rethink. How often does that price tag pan out based purely off speculation off one’s skill set? We look back at instances of saquon, JT, Najee, etc. and one can only imagine how much previous buyers had to spend to acquire talents like them to only flame out. With a solid Rb group coming in 2025, perhaps the better route is holding off and take the shot on a rookie and hope they accumulate value instead of hoping someone like bijan becomes another CMC (an outlier nowadays). Wonder what everyone’s thoughts are.

Re: Premium RB’s Worth The Price Tag
Unless you get them in a rookie draft or you buy low on them, it doesn't seem to work out well. RBs are too up and down, too replaceable, too reliant on offensive line play and have too many injuries. I wouldn't trade three firsts for any RB.
Two years ago Jonathan Taylor was this untouchable asset, and now while he's still Top 5-7 in position ADP, he's not nearly as premium as he once was.

Absolutely agree. Feels as though the better bet if you’re planning on competing is to buy a Derrick Henry instead for a fraction of the cost.

I think every trade where I’ve packaged up for a stud has backfired.

Same, it's just not worth it, IMO.Dynasty DeLorean wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 11:29 am I think every trade where I’ve packaged up for a stud has backfired.
Especially now that RB prices are so artificially inflated due to lack of supply driving up demand.
Hopefully the 2025 RB class will help ease the RB shortage due to the 2017 RB class aging out, and following RB classes not back-filing adequately.

It's looking like an outdated way to build a team.Dynasty DeLorean wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 11:29 am I think every trade where I’ve packaged up for a stud has backfired.
The concept of a bellcow RB is going away (if it hasn't already). And the NFL has expanded the season (and possibly even more). Depth is more important than ever. So trading 3 firsts for an RB that's going to get hurt and decline just doesn't work.

I swear there was a good thread with this exact title
Re: Premium RB’s Worth The Price Tag
Agreed. You'd be better off drafting three rb's. Or really, three of any position.

This is how I see it too. I'm much more likely to send a 2nd for a guy like Monty than paying the iron price on Hall or Bijan.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 9:06 am Unless you get them in a rookie draft or you buy low on them, it doesn't seem to work out well. Re: Premium RB’s Worth The Price Tag
I made the trade of 2 1sts and a player to move up to draft Bijan and have zero regrets. No position creates more value in FF over top 12 at that position than RB. If it’s the right guy it’s a potentially league winning move over having good to great depth but no elite scorers.
If I’m competing against 13 other savvy owners like I am in my league, if there’s a way to try to improve the odds of winning the league then it’s worth the gamble of rolling the dice - again, for what you perceive is the right guy.

I agree. I have tried similar packages for Breece, Bijan, CMC but my league mates don't want to make my team stronger.Bronco Billy wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:53 am I made the trade of 2 1sts and a player to move up to draft Bijan and have zero regrets. It has to be the right guy though. I don't think many are confident in trading multiple 1sts for any RB outside of 5 or 6 of them, which speaks to the position scarcity. Paying up for them is smart, so long as they are difference makers and continue to be for a few years
Re: Premium RB’s Worth The Price Tag
My strategy is to not invest heavily in running backs and then buy low during the season from teams that are no longer contenders and are trying to sell pieces. Can usually get cheap productive veteran, running backs at that time. This also decreases the chances of obtaining a running back in the preseason and they get injured early in the season or before the season even starts.
