Poll: Stroud or 1.05/25 1st/D. Smith

Postby blemly » Mon May 06, 2024 12:25 pm

Team 1 in sig. Full-on rebuild mode and looking for a premier QB. Is this too much to give for Stroud given my team’s (many) holes? Would still leave me with 1.04, 2.02, and 3 25 1sts (including my own).

Poll is currently split 3-3. Anyone who voted have any additional thoughts on this? Curious to hear from both sides as I love the player but am on the fence about the cost.

This is close. Standard cost of a franchise QB, which is super pricy. Are there cheaper options in the Herbert, Lawrence, or Love tier? I'd be fine parting with 1.05 or D. Smith and not your 2025 1st, but both 1.05 and Smith is quite the ask.

Too much, could take a QB at 1.4 or 1.5. Keep that arsenal of 25 picks and see how your team progresses this year.

If I'm the Stroud manager, this is an easy decline for me. I would need the pick to be high enough to ensure I could get Daniels. Otherwise, there is not nearly enough value in this offer for me to give away Stroud. A mid-level WR2 and two mid 1sts isn't enough for me to give up a 22year old T4QB for dynasty.

For ppg, Devonta finished WR24 and WR28 in two of my leagues last year. I know there is a huge Devonta fandom, but he's not really a top-tier WR producer at this point and I don't see a pathway for him to become one in the next three seasons. I like the guy and would like to roster him, but in a trade for a T4QB, Devonta isn't the significant trade piece some seem to think he is.

Blemly, I'm not saying you should necessarily offer more. I think Stroud would be a great foundational piece for you to rebuild your roster around, but if you get lucky and hit on your first two picks, you could add a quality QB. If you miss on one of those picks ... :vsad: ... it's going to be a longer climb toward rebuilding this roster.

The possibility of missing on a rookie QB is why I lean toward paying a steep price to acquire Stroud now. Halfway through the 2024 season, if Stroud is dropping T10QB week after T10QB week, his price is going to be a lot higher. But if you hit on your two picks, you'll be okay. How confident are you that you'll hit on the 1.04 + 1.05?

I would take Stroud. 1.05 is Maye/ JJ territory, Smith is nice but he will always be a WR 2. Not a league winner. I wouldnt trade my own 25 1st if Im rebuilding so hold on to that one
Main Home League
12 Team 1 QB PPR
-Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE and 2 Flex

QB: Anthony Richardson, Sam Darnold, Drake Maye, Bo Nix and Penix.
RB: Bucky Irving, Will Shipley, Deuce Vaughn, CPatt, Justice Hill and McBride
WR: Justin Jefferson, ARSB, Olave, Nico Collins, Malik Nabers, Tyquan Thornton, Marvin Mims, DeMario Douglas, Calvin Austin, DJ Chark,
TE: McBride, Dulcich, Woods, Hudson and Schoonmaker

Draft Picks
-3 25 1sts, 2 25 2nd, 3 25 3rds and 3 25 4ths
-2 26 1sts, 2 26 2nds, 1 26 3rd, and1 26 4th

2022 Champions in full rebuild. Looking to contend again in 2025.

I have a higher than league average hit rate on my picks, but it is not the result of some secret sauce predictive model and is much more likely a result of my being in tune with the dynasty communities like this one and sheer, dumb luck.

I really like Nabers and he would be one of those picks assuming he is not taken at the 1.03. I like Maye too, but he is a project QB.

I definitely would not have to add more to this deal to land Stroud as the owner has already indicated his willingness to do this deal. I probably have until Saturday morning (when we draft) to decide. He also has the 1.02, which I have tried to obtain using Devonta to no avail. Despite his loving Devonta, he doesn’t have a lot of tradeable assets to make it work.

What about a pivot to Purdy? He has a glut of QBs and is looking to deal one of them. Initial stages only but there is potential for the following:

No slight to Purdy. He's a good piece also. It's just that moving back four-to-six picks ('25 1st to 2.02) isn't enough of a motivator for me. I still want Stroud.

If you think Purdy is better than Stroud, or even if you personally think they are even ... then maybe you take the Purdy offer. I would not choose it over the Stroud offer, but it's not a crazy decision if you want to do it.

In a vacuum no doubt, but doesn’t the team build look stronger if I walk away from the draft with Purdy, 1.02, 1.04 and 4 25 1sts as compared to Stroud, 1.04, and 3 25 1sts?

That is essentially making you choose a side between Stroud and Purdy, 1.02, and a 25 1st. I love Stroud but think I’m on the Purdy side there.

Get: Purdy + 1.02
I'd be happy to pay the premium of swapping the 2.02 for a '25 1st to ensure I got Stroud over Purdy.

I would not, but it's not a crazy decision if you want to do it.

It's totally up to you. I'm squarely on the Stroud side, but I fully understand if you value a random '25 1st over Stoud instead of Purdy. It's just my opinion. I'm not infallible. Otherwise all my teams would have won championships last year.

If the Stroud trade was not available and the Purdy trade was the only one on the table, I'd take Purdy and be happy to do so.
