Trade Mayer for a Defense?

Didn't update the signatures as drafts are still going on. Below is one team that I feel is stacked but bleep at D. Would it be dumb to trade Michael Mayer for a defense. Another owner has both Dallas and SF which theoretically should be top 5.

Is it a normal league where most people have 1 defense and a few have 2? Would rather just stream them personally if so.

Negative. Only 3 teams have 1 Def., 6 have 2, 2 have 3 and 1 has 4.
While its obviously early and there will be cuts, the only Defs. currently on the waviers are Denver, Arizona, Charges, Giants, New England, Rams, Houston

It also depends on the scoring system for Defenses. If they get a real bump, then it makes sense to me.

It's hard to see Mayer ever becoming a player who's going to be a top-tier TE. Which means is realistic ceiling is second tier, and that's often close to replacement-level in leagues with standard TE scoring. And same logic applies here: don't really need 4 TEs. In this case, you might be losing on value. But you're trading a player who (a) has minimal value anyway and (b) will probably never see your lineup for a legit weekly points boost at another position.

I don't play in leagues with defenses, so I don't if either D that you're getting is a real upgrade. If it is, though, then I'd sign on off on this trade.

This. Truth be told no one can predict defenses in FF. You live off of TOs and Sacks basically. The DEF could give up 500 yards a game and still be #1 in FF points.
