How to acquire Josh Allen in a 1QB?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

How to acquire Josh Allen in a 1QB?

Postby johnnymozart » Tue Apr 23, 2024 1:19 pm

I'm trying to upgrade from Tua to Josh Allen as the other owner has Stroud and Allen and we are a 1QB.

This is for my rebuild team in signature where I have some RB depth and this owner desperately needs RB help.

If you were the Allen owner and needed RB help would a package of:

Pick (1) of Zamir White, James Conner, Tyjae Spears
Tua
2025 2nd

Make you consider moving Allen? And on the flip side is that too much of a package to offer from my end?
My team/Picks (14 Teamer- .5PPR) Start 1 QB, 2-3 RB, 2-3 WR, 1-2 TE
QB Lamar Jackson, Russ Wilson, Mills
RB A Gibson, Aaron Jones, Damien Harris, Penny IR, D.Pierce, Haskins
WR ARobinson, KAllen, Mike Evans, Sutton, Amon-Ra, TBoyd, GDavis, Dotson, Pierce
TE Mark Andrews, Goedert, LThomas
K Tucker
2023- No Picks
2024- 2, 2

Rebuild Sad Orphan 12 team .5PPR -- Start 1QB, 2-4 WR, 2-4 RB, 1-3 TE

QB. Tua, DJones (IR)
RB Bijan (R), Gibbs (R), J. Conner, TSpears (R), Demercado, J Mason, Z. White
WR Amon-Ra St Brown, Nico Collins, J. Reed (R), R. Shaheed, C.Tillman (R), Osborn, Terrace M, CSamuel, Pierce, Ross
TE Andrews, Ferguson, McBride, Ertz (IR)
DEF- Patriots, Vikings
2024 None
2025 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3
2026 2, 3

I think it's a good opening offer. My guess is the Allen manager will say it's too light. But hopefully it gets a dialog going.

I own Allen in 2 separate single qb leagues. Contender in one and rebuild in other. Wouldn’t consider your offer in the least. Thing with top tier talent, you want to get wowed by an offer, not given a fair offer with multiple lower level pieces. You need to come back stronger imo

Definitely light as Allen is the lone QB that goes early in drafts - somewhere in the 2/3 turn typically. Comparables would be players like Waddle, Achane, Aiyuk. I still prefer Allen because he’s the cheat code there year after year.

Your lack of picks is problematic, and I can appreciate not wanting to trade one of your better assets (aka obvious long-term starters). This trade feels like a classic 5 quarters does not equal $1. As the Allen owner, I’d be trying to move one of my stud QBs, but would absolutely need 1 player back that I was confident in being a starter on my team for more than 1y. I wouldn’t be insulted… so not wrong to try. Just don’t be surprised if they counter for something that feels too pricey (eg Gibbs or Bijan).

Sometimes best to wait for the season, and move one of your TEs or depth RBs for picks.

Auto-rejecting that offer and not sending a counter.

Even in 1QB, Allen is a top 5 dyno pick. Would take at least the equivalent of 3 firsts (players/picks) to consider moving him IMO. Tua and one of those backs (I notice you didn't offer any of your good ones) might count as 1 first. That means we're still 2 firsts apart in value.

That's far enough apart that it's not worth negotiating for me.

If you’re an Allen owner, there really isn’t an incentive to move him unless you bought a team for $1

This, unless you give a solid overpay I dont think anybody will move off him for some questionable RBS and a worse QB

i actually sold allen in a similar situation so maybe my deal can help guide you.

i had allen and herbert and had low interest in herbert but lots of people wanted allen so i sold him.

i sold allen, eli moore (was with the jets), AJ Dillon (must start 3rb format), and OBJ

i got Dak, Dk Metcalf, 2023 1st (1.10), curtis samuel, Isaiah spiller

i think the main thing your trade partner will need back is a first if its quality or an actual lineup starter and a late first or some 2nds.
team 1
12 team, 1 pt for 4 rec, 0.1 per rush
1qb, 3 rb, 4 wr, te, k, 4 idp
Dak , Herbert
Achane, Breece Hall, KW3Kyren,Ford, Miller, Spiller, z evans, singletary
J Jefferson, Diggs, DK, D Smith Puka, C Watson, E Moore
Njoku , HH, Engram

2024 picks
1,3,4,5,5,6,7 (all late mostly)

team 2
12 team .5ppr
qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, te, flx,flx,
Fields, Dak
Ford,Mixon, Javonte, Mostert, Chubb, Spears
Hopkins, Evans, g Wilson Mingo, shaheed, Jamo
Kelce,McBride, Chig,

1,2,3,3,5

team 3
14 team sf, even scoring idp to offense (rb scores highly too)
Josh Allen, A Rich, Foles, Rudolph
Bijan, Charbs, Spears, Ebner
J Williams, G Wilson, C Watson, Flowers, J Addison, Tillman
Kincaid, Kolar, Ruckert, Fergeson

Kenny Clark, josh allen, jaelen phillips, felix a-u and a bunch of fluff and rookie fliers at idp

I have said this before, but it is pretty hard to acquire an elite QB in 1 QB format because the owner will want more than value dictates. This offer won't get serious conversations started IMO.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

I feel the same way… usually they would want a RB1/2 or a WR1/2 and that is way more than the value a QB1 will bring
