Team Advice

Postby Menace2010 » Tue Apr 16, 2024 9:39 pm

I'm having a hard time with this squad and looking for general advice. I'm a little worried that, unlike most of my teams, this one is mediocre. Obviously that's literally the worst thing a team can be in fantasy, and I'm not entirely sure how to fix that...

14 Team, 1QB, Full IDP

QB: R. Wilson, Geno, and B. Young. My assessment, meh. Obviously, I'd prefer a stud, but I think I can mix and match these guys to patch together my QB position this year. Have an offer out for Stroud, but I doubt that it gets done... No one else really has two elite options and I'm not sure I want to strike a deal for a slight upgrade.

RB: B. Hall, D. Achane, K. Williams, Z. White, M. Sanders, K. Mitchell, + a few stragglers. My assessment, stacked. This is not how I usually build a team, but I got quite lucky with a few picks. Achane fell too far last year and I had to grab him and Kyren was a late round flyer. Zamir White had been on my practice squad until late last season. Tried shipping RBs+ for upgrades elsewhere, but no one is biting.

WR: Chase, C. Kirk, JSN, Shaheed, D. Douglas, B. Cooks, and Z. Jones. My assessment, solid. Obviously confident in Chase and Kirk, I think I can piece together WR3 and also likely to target this position with 1.10 in the draft. Have been trying to add one more sure thing, but haven't had much luck.

TE: Schultz, Fant, and J. Johnson. My assessment, meh. Worried about Schultz's target share. Fant and Johnson have never lived up to potential. Can likely mix and match here, but could also use an upgrade.

My IDPs are elite at every position: DT, DE, LB, CB, and S. Have been trying to use some depth LBs (which score as well as solid but not elite WRs) to upgrade at other positions, but again, I'm not having much luck during the off-season.

I'd welcome any advice. And yes, part of this is me being bored and trying to tinker...

I think you did a solid job summarizing your positions and strengths. I can’t speak for IDP but the key here is staying healthy. Your core does this and you are right on the mix. Definitely need to upgrade at TE and also hope that Young flourishes in year two. Honestly I would make a play for someone like Goff who is always cheaper than his production. He should have a solid year.

Try to upgrade at QB because Wilson is awful, Geno is just mid and Young looked lost. Thats where you should focus; Shultz will hold down TE for you and honestly finding a mid level TE is do able even in 14 Teamers, not sure what your rookie picks are but finding a future studs like McBride and Mayer is usually mid 2nd round in rookie picks

id try to turn chase into multiple wrs and a 1st or use him in a major qb deal. wr is just so easy to fill via the draft and you can turn around and sell your other qbs for wrs if you want.
team 1
12 team, 1 pt for 4 rec, 0.1 per rush
1qb, 3 rb, 4 wr, te, k, 4 idp
Dak , Herbert
Achane, Breece Hall, KW3Kyren,Ford, Miller, Spiller, z evans, singletary
J Jefferson, Diggs, DK, D Smith Puka, C Watson, E Moore
Njoku , HH, Engram

2024 picks
1,3,4,5,5,6,7 (all late mostly)

team 2
12 team .5ppr
qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, te, flx,flx,
Fields, Dak
Ford,Mixon, Javonte, Mostert, Chubb, Spears
Hopkins, Evans, g Wilson Mingo, shaheed, Jamo
Kelce,McBride, Chig,

1,2,3,3,5

team 3
14 team sf, even scoring idp to offense (rb scores highly too)
Josh Allen, A Rich, Foles, Rudolph
Bijan, Charbs, Spears, Ebner
J Williams, G Wilson, C Watson, Flowers, J Addison, Tillman
Kincaid, Kolar, Ruckert, Fergeson

Kenny Clark, josh allen, jaelen phillips, felix a-u and a bunch of fluff and rookie fliers at idp

Thanks for the additional info. That changes a lot for me. Also, I don't do IDP, and it sounds like you feel pretty set there anyway.

I think we'd all agree RB is your strength. You have your stud in Hall and then other potential studs / top-end players in K Williams, Achane, and Z White. With that depth, you're also protected against bye weeks, injuries, and a disappointing season by one (or even two) of the players. The only -- and big -- downside is that at least two of your best players on your roster are on the bench given that a max of two RBs can be in your lineup each week.

Given that distribution, your lack of a solid WR2/3 (Kirk, IMO, falls in the middle) becomes a bigger hole. I think you're in some trouble if Chase and Kirk don't both stay healthy and produce. That being said, every roster will have at least one hole, and having to piece together a WR3 is not necessarily a season-breaker...

...Except that you also have holes at QB and TE. You have a lot of serviceable players, and I'd look at them like I do your WR3: if this is your single hole, I think you're fine. But I really see upgrades needed at three positions. And I don't think you have the draft capital this year to do it.

That being said, with not playing in IDP, I don't know how much your defensive side gives you a real advantage over other teams. If it's truly elite, then I'm less concerned about the holes on offense since you can make up the points on the defensive side of the ball.

TL; DR -- I think your offense places you slightly ahead of middle-of-the-pack. I don't know whether or not your defense can bump you into the top tier.
