Ridder was once considered the top QB in the nation? New news to me.
Ridder was the pre-season front-runner for the Heisman in 2021 at OU... started out slow, and then Caleb Williams took over for him. That's a long time ago... but he was slated to be a top QB and significantly fell off.
I think you’re mixing up Ridder and Rattler. Ridder spent 4 years at CIN.
You’re completely correct - typo on my part, and misread on the first post.

And the victory lap is yours if you bear correct. However, most experts, scouts, etc folks have Caleb's pedigree extremely high. The comparison with MHJR is valid.
Oh, I’ll own it if I’m wrong. I’m not a big fan of taking victory laps though.

My position on Williams is not that I know he’s going to fail but rather there’s a lot more risk there than what is being assigned by many. There are red flags that some are just ignoring IMO.
I'm riding sidecar with BB right now. I also think there's factors that CW can't control that will aid in his downfall (i.e- Chicago's ineptitude). He's fighting a losing uphill battle before he even steps onto the field.
Williams in Chicago is just rough. Chicago is a defense/RB city. They have sucked for life at the QB/WR position.

I don’t disagree. Very similar to Buffalo with weather playing a major later in the year, which hopefully a dome will fix.

One thing I find very interesting is that this is only the second time the Bears have had the #1 pick in their history and last year they traded it. Out of all the quarterbacks in recent history for the Bears only 1 was selected in the top 10 and that was Mitch. It isn’t like the Bears have been working with the cream of the crop QBs when they do draft them.

I think ownership tried to play into the Defense and RB game, but now are switching it up.

Certainly explains why GB can’t find a QB.

CHI playing in a dome would be a true travesty. It’s already bad enough that half the division does.

One has a lake next door. The dome should help football but would suck because it would be an hour away from Chicago. Arlington Bears doesn’t have the same ring.

35 miles away from Lake Michigan compared to .1 mile makes a different element in playing.

Either way it is distracting away from my main point that we all like to bash the Bears (including me) on their QB development. But until recently they haven’t invested heavy draft capital into it. Fields was chosen outside the top 10 and entered the league with a lot of issues.

If the Bears select Williams, he will be the most talented QB they’ve had ever.

I'm starting to agree with this too. Hearing the NFL is much higher on JJM than Nix or Penix.

Been hearing much the same regarding JJ versus Penix/Nix. Regarding Denver, I think part of what got Payton so hot last year is that Russ isn't good over the middle of the field with timing routes. A big part of his offense is those 10-15 yard crossers over the middle, and he wants a QB who can throw with anticipation and timing. Again, that's not Russ. He's better outside the hashes, and at creating off schedule. I'd like to see him in Pittsburgh throwing to Pickens and Diontae. Still think he's got some decent football left in him if he picks his next spot wisely.

I haven't scouted JJ much, so I can't say if his skill set meshes well with Payton or not. I'm sure others could speak to that with more clarity at this point.

Facts!! ^^^

Bears are the only franchise in the NFL to not have a 4,000 yard passer at QB, yet they are the oldest franchise.
Franchises that are much younger even have 4,000 yard passers.
Hell, Stroud threw for over 4,000 yards as a rookie.

Shocking that the struggle to throw the ball in the Windy City.

Green Bay is a better weather comp. Or Cincy or Cleveland. Buffalo gets way more snow. I can't recall a shovel game in Chicago, although I'm sure it has happened. Buffalo seems to get one every couple of years.

This is the fourth time the Bears have owned the #1 pick.

For the record the Bills are not getting a dome so expect much of the same. The fans are a little bit more covered but the field is still entirely exposed to the elements.
