AJ Brown or Jahmyr Gibbs?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

AJ Brown or Jahmyr Gibbs?

Postby BradyT » Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:56 am

Whats the value difference between these two?

I'm thinking about offering AJ Brown for Gibbs and something.

I have a bigger need at RB than WR:

QB: Mahomes, Love
RB: K.Walker, Pacheco, AJ Dillon, Kendre, Chase Brown
WR: Lamb, AJ Brown, Higgins, R.Rice, Jameson, Mingo, Mims, Palmer, Bateman, Shakir
TE: Hockenson, Ferguson

1.01(MHJ), 1.11
+ 3 1sts in 2025 and 2026

lineup:
1QB
2RB
3WR
1TE
1Flex
24 roster spots - 1QB,2RB,3WR,1TE,1Flex

QB: Herbert,Minshew
RB: Breece,Walker,Taylor,BRobinson,Allgeier,Spiller
WR:Jefferson,Lamb,DJMoore,QJohnston,Jameson,MMims, T.Marshall,Shakir,Gallup
TE: Andrews,Conklin
DST:DAL
2024 picks: 1.11, 2.10, 4.01, 4.05, 4.07, 4.11

Brown has the longer track record but I am not sure there is much of a value difference one for one. Gibbs had a great year, showed massive potential and upside. I don't see either side adding.

I contacted the Bijan and Breece owner, but he's not interested, despite having a need at WR and AJ Brown bein the only one on the market((JJ,Chase,my Lamb,Waddle,Olave,G.Wilson all "untradable").

Since I allready own Walker, Gibbs is pretty much the only other. Maybe Taylor, but I'm very hesistant about him.

Start 3 WR changes things a bit. I think it’s a fair deal, but I wouldn’t say you have more of a need at RB given you have to start 3WR. Being able to start Lamb, AJB and MHJ with Rice and Higgins as support would be really nice to have.

Move on for sure. Gibbs is a top end RB heading into 2024 and while he is good, some of that is due to others aging out and lack of RB1 candidates.

Well the only other option basically is Jonathan Taylor. And right now I'm not sure I wanna trade Brown for him.
Bijan/Breece arent going anywhere(they share the same owner) and K Walker is on my squad.

No need to rush a move. The fantasy year just ended and more options could become available as the offseason moves along. Let it be for now.

The other owner seems to value Gibbs quite highly so as others have said, just move on. To be honest though, he might have done you a favour. Now is the worst time of the year to be buying rbs, and should be the time of year you buy wrs! Brown will be turning 27 this year, and probably has just as many fantasy relevant seasons left as any rb kn the league, possibly even more! (Gibbs included) Gibbs had a great rookie season and seems poised to be a fantasy superstar, but rbs are just so volatile year to year. The lions OC may take a head coaching job elsewhere, and who knows what that Offense will look like then, maybe they won’t feature the rbs as much.

I also agree that you really aren’t strong at wr, and with start 3 wrs, would easily keep brown. Beyond lamb/brown, your wrs are kind of unknown:
MHJ - should be a stud but many rookie wrs start slow, he might only be a wr3 in year 1.
Higgins - who knows where he will go. He should go somewhere to be the wr1, but let’s say it’s Carolina, who knows how that will shake out.
Rice - good rookie year, but if KC brings in more competition he might not have that year 2 bump everyone is expecting.

Obviously they could all hit and you could have a ton of startable wrs but I wouldn’t bet on it. I would only look to move an elite wr for a rb when my team is set everywhere, and I have elite wrs in the bench that can step in, otherwise I would continue to build around wrs and just plug and play rbs.

If we learned anything this year, that is we can get a serviceable RB in season. I mean look at the guys in the top 10 like Kyren, Mostert etc. No way in hell I would trade AJB for Gibbs. Gibbs is sharing Carrie’s and he was frustrating early in the year. He didn’t do much the first 5 weeks. I think he did you a favor.
