It is also worth remembering that at the time we were evaluating Jameson, we'd only seen 6 good Amon-Ra St. Brown games. He came on late in 2021.

He wasn't truly the Sun God yet. I don't think any of us truly knew what to think of him at that point - certainly, he was a far cry from the Dynasty WR4 ranking that he holds today.

I think that's where you'll find a big shift in this thread - after ARSB truly arrived during the 2022 season, and we started realising that the target share and available opportunity in this offense wasn't what we thought it was going to be, even when Jamo came back.

A lot of people had trouble letting go of their priors on that one. But sure enough - ARSB is the truth in DET, and Jamo and the other WR's will continue running wind sprints to clear out coverages for him underneath.

Appreciate that FF, I do try.

Random aside, but I was listening to Russilo interviewing Todd McShay (about the 2024 WR class actually - worth a listen) on his podcast the other day, and RR asked him "whats' the number one thing people overrate with WR's" and he said "speed". It rang so true.

(Immediate ghosts of John Ross and Henry Ruggs and Tedd Ginn and DHB flashed by)

We've done this so many times with guys running 4.2x 40's. It's just too tantalising; we want to believe we've found the next Tyreek. Jamo should have been that. Maybe he still could be; He has the physical talent; he can actually be that fast. It's just that there's so much more to being a Professional Wide Receiver than running super fast.
Agreed.

Simply put, there's a big difference between your play speed and straight line speed. The former shows up a lot more often for WRs than the latter does. A 4.6 WR can look like a 4.3 WR if he's advanced enough as a route runner. A 4.3 WR can look even faster if he has the technique down, which is why Tyreek Hill is just flat out unguardable.

That said, Jameson in college did look like that type of WR, who not only had the speed, but had the route running chops. Albeit one season, it was a historically elite season. Only 7 other players have ever put up a 1500 receiving yard season in the toughest conference in college football. All of them except (DeVonta Smith, Ja'Marr Chase, Amari Cooper, Justin Jefferson, Alshon Jeffery) were/are studs except....Josh Reed (???).

Jameson's circumstances are just so much different though than those players for weird and self-inflicted reasons.

Per @PFF, Jameson Williams has now officially dropped more catchable passes than he’s caught. Up to ~55% on the season.
