Hi guys,
I have taken a team abandoned by its owner. The biggest hole in this team is the DE position (the best I have is Darryl Tapp...). We have to put one DE in our lneup and one of the team has Allen and Peppers. I asked the owner if he was willing to trade one of them and he seems open to the idea. Now, I am a rookie in term of IDP and so I was wondering which one of the two I should target and what is the "price" of a DE.
Here is the scoring rules for the defense:
- TDs are worth 6 points
- forced fumble and interception are worth 4.5
- 4 points to block a FG or a punt
- 4.5 for a safety
- 3 for a sack
- 2 points for a defended pass
- 1.5 for a tackle and 0.75 for an assist
Last year, Allen scored 191 (2nd in the league) points and Peppers 124 (8th in the league). The obvious choice seems to be Allen, but as I was saying, I don't know IDP's well and was wondering if the numbers tell the truth or if Allen's season was an overachievement?
Anyway, that would be nice to have some advice from people who know better than me!

Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
Allen has been a top 3 DL for the past several seasons. With their offense being so bad he will be on the field a lot. I'm buying him!
Peppers is starting to really slow down for some reason..maybe the injuries, age or the grass in Solider Field

Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
Allen is the easy choice. He is an IDP elite, and draws top dollar. I would easily give a mid to late first round rookie pick for him if I wanted him. If you have a strength at a position that the other guy is weak at, you could even send him a decent WR or top notch TE for him, even a QB depending on your scoring and starting requirements.
Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
Also, Peppers would be worth an add as a short term stop gap until you draft or pick up as a free agent a better option. If you go with Peppers, you'll want to watch the waiver wire for the next up-and-comer, like a Jabaal Sheard was this past season.
Of course, I'd pay significantly less for him. He is on the decline.

Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
The team finished last so I don't really have any strength. The only "strength" I have is at RB (and that's what the guy told me he wanted - what a shock ). We have to put 2 RBs in our lineup and I have Charles and Mathews that are my obvious starters. I actually have a RB I don't really trust but who has some value: Helu. Would that be too expensive for a DE?

Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
Allen is the better player, but Peppers will probably come a lot cheaper. You can try Helu for Peppers, but I doubt that gets it done. I wouldn't give up Charles or Mathews in your situation for either guy.

Re: DE: Jared Allen or Julius Peppers
I would offer Helu for Allen, and maybe a little draft upgrade consideration if he doesn't bite.

Ok, so the owner of those two guys gets cold feet for Alen now... He proposed me Helu versus Peppers and his 3rd round this year (3.12th pick, we have a 16 team league) and either a 5th this year or a 4th next year. Don't really know what to do.

Are you getting Peppers, a 3rd this year, and either a 4th or a 5th next year? If so, take the deal.pierrefr wrote:Ok, so the owner of those two guys gets cold feet for Alen now...
