ESPN's Stephania Bell throwing cold water on Pitts expectations- "Pitts suffered a torn right MCL that required surgery, and his season came to a halt. The Falcons hope he will be ready to go when the 2023 campaign begins, but it's worth noting Pitts did not participate in any offseason workouts, including June minicamp. Given the procedure he underwent, it was a bit surprising to see him held out entirely. Atlanta coach Arthur Smith said at the time he expected "everybody" to be ready for the season opener, but he didn't offer much in the way of specifics regarding a timeline for Pitts. Even if Pitts participates in camp, and the ramp-up is gradual and he sees limited or no preseason game action, his return to prior level of performance might be a longer road back than simply his return to play. The Falcons added depth at the tight end position, which could be viewed as either insurance or luxury. Training camp might be the proving ground for Pitts in his recovery."
----------------------------------------------------
The Athletic- Pitts was circumspect about his first appearance on the practice field since suffering an MCL tear against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 11, 2022. “It felt good,” he said after the Falcons’ first day of training camp workouts. Pitts described himself as “pretty close” to 100 percent. He wore a brace on his right leg that he called “precautionary.”

Head coach Arthur Smith declined to say exactly what the Falcons will ask Pitts to do and when they will ask him to do it, but they are confident Pitts will be ready for the Sept. 10 season opener against the Carolina Panthers. Pitts spent part of Wednesday’s practice working one-on-one with tight ends coach Justin Peelle but did get snaps in a seven-on-seven drill.

Yeah, very strange. Perhaps just playing it really safe.

Riverdance on! Loved that guy's footwork. Just 28.
Craziness. Word just broke in our startup draft's group chat. Only 28 years old.

I feel like we've been here before, but....Justyn Ross hurt. Leg injury. Not a lot of details right now. He was carted off. Believed to be hamstring.

That just sucks. It benefits my FF team, but I was pulling for him to make it and be a part of the KC O. Damned shame.

I read it doesn't appear to be serious. So he will likely miss a bit of time, but doesn't seem to be season ending. Good news, I suppose. Still, missing time is not good, considering how much he's missed. It says knee/hamstring/shin, which is odd. Is it all 3, or one of them, and they aren't sure?

Sounds to me like nothing from the team has come out, so someone at camp just saw the injury and can't tell what it is.

Yeah, if it's a hammy, or knee, likely needs an MRI.

Non contact injury for Gage, to his knee. Likely ACL, or ACL plus. Sadly, I think that's it for him.

It is a shame. Not a big name you'd see on breakfast cereal boxesbut a pro.

Opens the WR3 spot for all their youngns. If they capitalize, an Evans/Godwin trade or tank job could give them opportunities the latter half of the year.

Normally by now two guys in the top 3 rounds of redraft have blown their ACLs and one ripped his Achilles
Treylon Burks being carted off with a left knee injury. The second he puts pressure on it after he gets up, he realizes he can't put weight on it. Hope it's nothing structural to the knee, but doesn't look good.
