Rank these four teams

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Rank these four teams

Postby jeffster » Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:42 pm

My league is being pretty aggressive on win-now moves already. Curious what you guys think on these four squads that seem like the top contenders at this point - how would you rank them? Both for this season and for the future. I'm having a hard time deciding who I think has the clearest shot.

12 team PPR Superflex, only listing starters plus 1-2 significant bench (nothing after starters means they either have nobody at all, or just low-value dart throws), approximate best starters in bold (QB, SF, 2RB, 3WR, TE, 2Flex)

Team 1
QB: Lawrence, D. Jones, Love, Howell
RB: ETN, Dobbins, Swift, Jamaal Williams, Tank, Gibson
WR: Metcalf, Pittman, Aiyuk, Toney, Wandale, Bateman, Claypool
TE: Kelce
Picks: standard own picks, plus extra 2024 1st (mid-early)

Team 2
QB: Herbert, ARod, Corrall
RB: Ekeler, Perine, Mostert, Penny
WR: Diggs, Allen, Cooper, Godwin, Jakobi, Paris Campbell
TE: Kittle, Engram
Picks: standard own picks

Team 3
QB: Hurts, Fields, Darnold
RB: Chubb, Bijan, Monty, AJD, Ford, Allgeire
WR: Garret Wilson, DeVonta Smith, Higgins, DJM, Hollywood
TE: Pitts
Picks: 2x 2024 2nds, standard own picks after

Team 4
QB: Mahomes, Cousins
RB: CMC, Taylor, Conner, Cook, Foreman
WR: Deebo, Mike Williams, B Cooks, Mooney, DPJ, Osborn
TE: Andrews, Higbee
Picks: 2024 1st (likely very early), 3x 2025 1sts

I can see the case for team 4 and 3 to be top but when in doubt, go with Mahomes and the safety of Cousins.

Team 4 - has the QBs and RBs to do well but WR is a concern

Team 3 - seems the most well rounded but needs a couple pieces to hit

Team 2 - RB is a major concern or this could be the top team

Team 1 - really fun on paper but could go either way with weekly production

I agree: 3-4-2-1

It's not a slam dunk that Three outperforms the others, just that's where I'd put my money if I had to today. The other three teams need some things to break in their favor but they are things that could happen. Examples:
Four - Deebo and Williams perform at their peak (possible, but seems unlikely)
Two - Javonte is out for the bulk or the season and A.Rod returns to form (maybe?)
One - Tough to see, need to believe ETN and Dobbins can put up their best seasons

1)
Team 1: TLaw+DJones are the qb duo listed for the next three seasons, and might be the best in 2023. DJones had a lot of QB1 weeks in 2022, and there's reason to expect at least as much in 2023 with the roster improvements. Kelce is the best TE. There are question marks at RB+WR, but I think there's enough depth that four quality starters will emerge and be good enough to make this the best team for the next two seasons.

2)
Team 3: If Fields keeps his job this might be the best team. Right now it's close enough that I'm calling this the 1b team in the league. The RBs are going to be fantastic for 2023, though there is potential for slippage in 2024 and beyond. The WRs are a strange combination but I think they'll be super strong in 2023 and there's enough depth to keep things rolling in 2024 and 2025. Will Fields keep his job?

3)
Team 4: Mahomes and Cousins might end up being the best qb duo of the four contenders for 2023. If so, this could be a scary good team considering the stacked RBs. I am not a fan of the WR room, and this is the worst of the four contenders - upside to be very good, but a floor about three basement levels deep. Andrews!!!

4)
Team 2: I predict Aaron's 2023 decline will be a glorious thing to behold. By 2024, the Jets will be ridiculed for giving up so much to get him. The RBs get very thin behind Ekeler, and if he slides any after this season the future for this team will be bleak. The WRs are competent enough for a 2023 contender, but just barely. As with Ekeler, if there is any age-related decline for the WRs after 2023, this team will have a hard time.
TEAM 1:
12 Team ppr w/20 keepers - start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1FLX 6IDP 1DEF
QB: Tua, Lamar, Levis
RB: Etienne, Pacheco, JavonteWms, JFord, CEH
WR: Lamb, JChase, Waddle, Pickens, MWilliams, Q Johnston
TE: Goedert, Friermuth
DEF: Cowboys, Ravens
IDP:(LB) Bolton, Greenlaw; (DE/DL) ZCollins, BJHill; (S/CB) Pitre, Bates, Witherspoon
2023 & 2022 Champion: 2020 third place: 2019 Champion

TEAM 2:
14 Team 30roster SF/ppr/TEP - QB/RB/WR/TE/5FLX/SF
QB: Tua, CJStroud, Carr, AOC, MWhite, Lock
RB: Etienne, Stevenson, GusE, AJD, Singletary, CEH, Spiller
WR: Amon-Ra, Kirk, Dell, Thielen, Gallup, Ch Jones
TE: Andrews, Waller, Taysom, Smythe, WMallory, JOliver
2023 semifinals loser

3>4>1>2 if you look at the rosters 'as is'. It's fairly balanced, but team 3 has high end starters at every position.

This could easily change if team 1, 2, or 4 spend their draft capital to boost their weaknesses. Team 3 has a few 2nds, but won't be able to buy high end talent like the other teams with 1sts can.
