There's not much film out there on either but from what I can see, Schoonmaker is the better route runner and receiver right now in my opinion, plus you have to LOVE the opportunity with Dallas that turns total turds into TE1's. Kraft is more raw in both receiving (and blocking, oddly enough), but if Kraft improves I think he will have the ability to be better longer term.
No concerns about McCarthy taking over that offense? Green Bay TEs were almost always long on hype, but usually short on production (a couple flash years here and there)
No concern at all. Dallas is built differently and McCarthy shouldn't go backwards. TE is a needed position in this offense and Dak loves his TE's.

McCarthy has been known as a solid play caller that uses his talent well.

Dallas TE's are pretty much the opposite, Short on Hype and Long on production.

Dak's strength looks to be intermediate timing routes between the hash-marks off play action. His weakness are out routes. TE's don't run a lot of those.

Schoonmaker looks to have a plus mature mental makeup and it wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be the best TE in this class. He has a good build, plus speed, and is in a very good system to play a ton of snaps. They see a Witten type player IMO. Witten never left the field playing in the high 90% of offensive snaps.

Volume should be his friend. Time will tell but he could have a very bright future.

Just finished draft in 12 team SF:

1.01 Bijan Robinson
2.01 Kendre Miller
2.07 Jayden Reed
2.10 Josh Downs
3.01 Jaylen Hyatt
4.01 Sean Tucker

Not exactly how I thought it’d turn out (wanted Achane at 2.01, Roschon in late 2nd) but I don’t hate it. Hopefully 1 of the 3 WR hits, need help at that position.

Yeah, in Sleeper mock drafts over the last 3 months I had drafted each of Downs, Hyatt and Tucker at 2.01 at different points.

Downs went at 2.11 as WR8 in our 14 team IDP league. I could have grabbed him at 2.07 but went with Reed instead. I really liked Downs coming into the draft and was hoping he’d be around as an option at my 1.10 pick, but his going to IND and potentially spending at least his first 4 years with Richardson at QB pushed him so far down my list that I wouldn’t have taken him until the 3rd round. WRs are still completely dependent on who is under center, and with Richardson’s limitations - most especially in short to midrange targets - and with the WRs he’ll have bracketing him I just don’t see enough opportunity despite how highly I think of him. Damned shame, IMO.

I had a very similar draft. 10 TM 1QB I came out with:

1.01 Bijan
1.03 JSN
1.10 Kendre Miller
3.01 Jayden Reed
3.02 Tank Bigsby
3.09 Boutte

Pretty hyped how it turned out. A flier on Boutte super late is fun...maybe he turns it around? My only regret is I didn't walk away with LaPorta, he went at 2.08.
10 Team - 0.5 PPR - QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FLEX, FLEX, DEF

QB: J. Allen, Lance
RB: Kamara, Ekeler, Rhamondre, Bijan, Montgomery, Kendre Miller, Tank Bigsby, Damien Harris
WR: Diggs, M. Brown, Aiyuk, Pittman, Smith-Ngjiba, Dotson, Sutton, Jayden Reed, Boutte
TE: Kittle, Pat Freiermuth, T. McBride, C. Okonkwo

Schoon is a guy I've been warming up to.

I can see him being a vertical threat down the seams and was a much better receiver than I expected given his profile.

On top of that he's locked into Dak as his QB for the foreseeable future and his tendency towards risk aversion is going to always make his TE a viable fantasy option.

People inflate the importance of coaching scheme for TEs when it's 9/10 simply the result of the QB under center's tendencies in combination with the talent of the TE in the offense.

Doesn't have an elite ceiling given his lack of YAC ability but could put up a couple Dalton Schultz esque mid TE1 seasons which is great value given his ADP.

I got Downs at 2.08 in a 20 team league (pick 28).

 I feel like Roschon is going earlier in drafts than he should. Certainly earlier than I'd want to take him, with the talent/profiles still on the board.

I think that entire backfield will get nuked in FA or the draft next year.

Brett Kollman just released his Rookie RB video, you can find it here.

Now I know he has a lot of... um... big fans around here. But let's just appreciate this for what it is: a guy that watches nothing but film, who often gets to sit in on actual NFL war-rooms and talk to those staffs, working with his notebook open, and evaluating off of nothing except the film and what he sees. No analytics... just film study, baby. And then letting us read his notes with no paywall!

I'm always one for hearing a take that isn't chalk, especially at this time of year. And it can sometimes have me re-visiting prospects I might have already written off (such as Tank and Zach Evans... and a big re-think on Roschon, in this case). Anyway. Here's his rankings:

Tier 1

1. Bijan Robinson

Tier 2

2. Roschon Johnson
3. Zach Charbonnet
4. Jahmyr Gibbs

Tier 3

5. Tank Bigsby
6. Kendre Miller
7. Chase Brown
8. Deuce Vaughn
9. Tyjae Spears
10. Zach Evans
11. Izzy Abanikanda
12. Sean Tucker
13. Devon Achane

Tier 4... you can go watch yourself if you're keen for those (nobody that interesting imo)

Yeah, I watched it. Can't get on board with Roschon in tier 2. Agree with his skepticism of Gibbs though. Not the talent, just the expectations of FF owners.

13 players. One for every ingredient in one of his mixed drinks.
