I could see a path where he becomes an Andy Dalton type.

This is how I kind of feel about him. The Falcons team is too talented to completely suck, and Ridder was a 4 year starter with quality production and he’s mobile. I could see a Dalton/Carr type path. I don’t think this is like Houston with Mills but also not quite the Eagles/Hurts.

Think he has the tools but not the field awareness. Justin Fields lite ... Never going to be an elite executioner of an offense but could be a Davis Mills like "good enough" to see if he can develop only to realize that he's not a Pro Bowl passer but can have an okay career

Anteaters wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 7:53 am I think Ridder is best suited for a SF team down to one good QB. If you can acquire Ridder at low price, you can plug him in and assume/hope he plays all of 2023 while the team assesses him. The odds are less than 50% that Ridder is Atlanta's QB in 2024 - there's a chance, but I don't predict he'll be good enough to stick. But Ridder should be the QB for 2023, then if he's not good enough Atlanta can get a FA QB next offseason.

I would not want to pay for Ridder at a price that assumes he's the long term answer for Atlanta. I don't think that's a good bet.
Certainly not advocating to give up a significant amount for him. I do think there’s a scenario where ATL wins 7-8-9 games and Ridder is competent enough that he rolls into 2024 as well. Mostly because they’ll be priced out of a rookie. He’s being handed the keys to a pretty good offense and will be protected in play calling, so he’ll have to be abysmal to lose the job.
I agree there is a decent chance Ridder makes it into 2024 as the starter. Not more than 50%, but a solid chance. Atlanta can deal with the team losing a lot in 2023, but Ridder has to lose games while playing well. That way, he'll maybe get a chance to open 2024 as the starter.

Not comparing the two players talents but the team situations. Neither really WANTS to start these guys but aren't wanting to deviate from their long term plans amassing draft capital so they aren't going after big name FA s or bundling high picks to move up in draft for rookie "FRANCHISE" QB ... YET!!!

Roll these guys out to see if they caught lightning in a bottle (the next Tom Brady / Kurt Warner type) until it's obvious they're not your answer. If you get lucky (or Lovie) on your side you end up in a position to get your "FRANCHISE" guy w/o giving up the farm to do so.

they really needed a WR that can't stay healthy!

Well, they dealt Toney last year so they had an opening for one of those.

Jason3123 wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 7:09 am So is anyone buying Ridder? Heinicke's deal is being misreported everywhere, it's not even close to $20 million. It's $14 at best and he's an easy cut after 2023. That offense has weapons and they probably add another intriguing name or two in the draft at WR/RB. Falcons will probably be too good to end up picking top 5 next year so I don't think the Caleb tank will be on.
I would buy, but I already own him everywhere lol

Lol. I like Campbell. Here’s to hoping Daboll puts him to good use.

And they just released Golladay. You can never have enough of those guys.
