Curtis Samuel - A buy low or Ignore?

Postby SN9-7Titans » Mon Feb 27, 2023 12:32 pm

I would like to know some info's on Curtis Samuel after i received an offer with him for my 4.11... I know, nothing, but still.

Anyway from what i gathered so far
  • he started the season strong, but when Heinecke was subbed in, he vanished and received only low targets
  • Also fun that the game where they put back in Wentz, he scored after a long time a TD but his season ended on a bad note
  • His contract isnt favoring his team, with 13 Mill cap hit, 7 Mill in dead cap, and a non-guaranteed $10.2 million base salary in 2023 which would make him one of the most expensive WR3 in the NFL according to Rotowire
That's the major points so far. Expensive, likely dropped by Washington, only WR3 if he stays, and not much else to go on here. There are no teams that have been linked to him. No future upside to grab onto because there is nothing else on this guy except him becoming 27.

As a player he has the tools and played as a Deebo lite version for the Panthers and Commanders, but if he is cut, his Rivera-linked days are over and this is new territory.

Does anyone else have more insight on Curtis?

I have no additional insight, but I would gladly pay the 4.11 for him without hesitation. He has shown the upside to be a viable flex/depth piece. Most guys you get with that pick will be on the WW before the season even starts.

He has a better shot of putting up points over the the 4.11 pick, but I would not expect much at all from him. He is older for a player that has done very little and I don't think that changes. At the same time, Samuel > 4.11.

Samuel may be better than the 4.11, but draft picks are better, more versatile assets to toss in on future trades. A future trade partner might not see Samuel as an enticement in a trade, but an extra draft pick is always welcome.

One more thought - if someone is trying to move a player like Samuel at this time of the year for that low of a pick, he's looking at the end of his roster and players he may have to cut. Chances are, Samuel may be available on waivers come week one.

I'd wait.

I'm not chasing after Curtis, but Curtis>>>>4.11

If this is a very deep league with absolutely nothing on the ww, I'd be happy to add Samuel at that price.
