2023 IDP Prospects

Postby Pullo Vision » Sun Feb 12, 2023 6:26 am

DE Will Anderson and DT Jalen Carter are grouped (with Bijan Robinson) as the sole elite talents in this year's entire draft class. The CB side is so strong at the top that one and even two (Devon Witherspoon and Christian Gonzalez) are frequently mocked to go in the top 10 of the NFL draft. LB is a bit more varied but the first one doesn't go in mocks usually until mid 1st.

Beyond the first few at each position, some guys are getting talked up, now that the Shrine and Senior Bowls have been played. Calijah Kancey is repeatedly described as a great pass rushing iDL, and one person compared him to Aaron Donald. Someone else on that pod questioned if that was uniform scouting, so take that with a grain of salt.

So, what're your thoughts on the class, what players have caught your eye? Are you comfortable enough with your evaluations to put down preliminary rankings?
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K

League #2- 12 team PPR, 1Q, 1R, 2W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1 W/R/T, 1 Def

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

Carter and Anderson have top 10 NFL Draft capital value, and could be solid IDP pieces.
The rest of the class is not so great, IMO.

Yes, some CB's could sneak into top 10, but not because they are studs like Sauce Garner, and more because, well 10 players have to be picked in the top 10, because that is how the draft works.

Aside for a few studs like Bijan, Anderson, and Carter, I agree with Mel Kiper (shock), Todd McShay, and others that overall, this class is on the weaker side in real life.

I've heard comments that the class *overall* is weak, but individual positions can be stronger/weaker than the average. Evaluators have said DL and/or DE are deep, outside the top 1 or 2. Tyree Wilson is frequently mocked top 5, and more DLs usually get mocked in the 1st than WRs. LBs are starting to get rated high enough to see one go top 10. Atlanta, for instance, could be interested with the new DC potentially bringing in a new scheme.

This question is lineup requirement dependent, but do you consider any (at this early stage) draftable in IDP leagues, beyond the 2 you mentioned?

Earlier this year, there was NFL chatter that teams may be worried about Will Anderson's size. This month, he got grouped with LB prospects for the combine, instead of DE like he'd been listed much of the season. In Daniel Jeremiah's most recent mock, he put players where he's hearing teams may be interested. He commented on how teams are loving Tyree Wilson's combo of size/length/athleticism, before mocking him ahead of Anderson.

If teams truly see Anderson as an edge LB due to size, that'd be quite the fall from being seen as the 1st overall prospect.
