Inaugural Superflex Draft

Postby jbenz0208 » Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:16 pm

My league is having our inaugural draft tonight. 12 team superflex auction with salary cap. 25 players per team, $250 budget. Here are my initial thoughts:

-I do not care about winning this year or next
-My thinking is people may spend a lot too early and I can load up on some decent younger talent later in the draft on the cheap
-I want to make sure I get a top 5 young QB (Burrow at the worst) and potentially a stud young WR (AJ Brown or Pittman at worst)
-Not taking any somewhat expensive RBs
-After this I will just wait until people spend or potentially bargain shop

Two questions:
1) Does anyone have rankings for a 2 QB / Superflex dynasty league that shows auction values?
2) Any tips / suggestions?

Thanks!

There are no guides and no specific advice for auctions. Each auction is different. The best advice is to be flexible and adjust as your league establishes value for players.

If you have specific questions as they come up hop by the team advice forum and there can be help.

DLF does have some auction draft tools.

Make sure you leave the draft with THREE QBs that are current starters in the NFL.

One should be really good, like you said, Burrow. Next, get someone like D.Carr or K.Cousins. Then get you a super cheap guy like Wentz as your third.

Get a good WR

Then value shop for the rest of your RBs/WRs.

If it's not TEP and you only have to start one, punt TE. Get a guy like D.Njoku for cheap.

Only auction advice is don’t sink money into “maybe” players. Studs and duds is the way imo. Nothing worse than blowing a large chunk of change on Jalen Reagor in my auction startup

Nah if people are overpaying for QBs you don't need to leave with 3. SF position doesn't have to be a QB. If the value is at one of the other positions don't force it. As I said, be flexible, we like water.

I've never seen anyone do well in a SF league starting a non QB in the SF spot. I guess it's possible and highly dependent on league settings but I'd say a huge majority of people would say you need a QB in the SF spot to be competitive.

Plenty of people do fine with 1 starting qb, and again the key is to not overpay for a qb when you can get more value in other places.

I agree with this. Even a bad QB can stumble their way into 14 points; they have to be astoundingly bad to score less than 10.

And on the flip side: you have to be pretty deep at all other positions to not be taking that hit somewhere across your starters. It's the floor of the QB that gives people the edge.

To the OP: consider trying to get 2 of the young stud QB's with long term security (Herbert, Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc) and dumping the rest into upside WR's (consider all of the big name rookies from this draft, and others that are yet to fully hit like Aiyuk, Jeudy, Devonta Smith, etc - find the discounted ones). Consider a princely sum on Kyle Pitts too.

RB can always be put in place later once you have a hot core in place at QB and WR. QB can be incredibly hard to hit on, and will usually go in the top 1-3 picks of most SF drafts when it's considered a surefire hit. Even then: Baker was considered surefire... it's a hard position to evaluate. Don't be afraid to go heavy after QB and youth WR... That's the fastest way to setup for long term dominance imo.
