Kyler Murray or Jalen Hurts

Ok, I gotta know what peoples thoughts are here. There is not enough chatter around comparing these two.

Assess short term production.

Across the board Murray for me. Murray slows down when his rushing dries up a bit but if we are looking at that, Hurts without rushing is rough. Murray comfortably.

As a dynasty/keeper asset I have Kyler, very far ahead of Hurts. Kyler has repeatedly proven he can excel as a passer and a runner. Arizona has proven they view him as their long-term QB by giving him a new mega-deal. Hurts' situation is very uncertain compared to Kyler's, as is the level of proven NFL-level talent and staying power. Don't forget than when we talk about talent/skill, we are talking just as much about the decision-making skills as physical talent. I know Kyler is near-elite level for handling the non-physical demands of the job, but the jury is still out on Hurts.

I guess I could understand the framework of a debate in favor of Hurts if we talk redraft only. I'm fairly certain Philly is going to give Hurts all of 2022 to prove himself. Even in redraft, ultimately I'd rather have Kyler for the 2022 season.

It would have to take a manager who is a 100% Hurts believer to want Hurts over Kyler in dynasty. I can't imagine any objective manager wanting Hurts over Kyler for a dynasty team.

Kyler has a great arm, is a good runner, and has a knack for avoiding contact. I think he will have a better year than last year. I have him quite a bit higher long-term then Hurts. That could change if Hurts has a great year throwing the ball

Based on value, I would understand pivoting to Hurts and a piece from Kyler if you are a believer. I personally think Hurts is here to stay, and have been trying to acquire him in SF leagues based on value.

It’s Murray and not close to me. Jalen Hurts is a good fantasy QB, I’m not convinced he’s a very good NFL QB or will be in Philly long term. He’s just too inconsistent throwing outside of the numbers to be a starter long term. Especially when he’s forced to sit in the pocket down multiple scores, it’s not good. There’s also been a lot of chatter in Philly if he would be their starter this year. Rumblings that they were pretty involved in Russ talks.

If you traded Murray straight up for Hurts you would be laughed at. I like Hurts and think he’s very functional in his role and has a lot of upside. The thing is, I think Kingsbury sucks and has largely survived because he had the sense to give Vance Joseph a job. He’s an alleged offensive guru, but even with all the talent he brought in, he’s failed to really do much of anything with it.

Simple, Kyler Murray, because he has a legit NFL arm, which Hurts does not possess.

Early 1st or equivalent value at least. Even if that seems like a big ask, if Hurts drops off this year and loses his role long term, moving Murray will be a huge mistake.

I'm probably higher on Hurts than most people on the site tbh but even so:

Short-Term Production - I give the edge to Hurts here, last year he scored more fantasy points as a rusher (as in just rushing yardage + rush TDs) than Mike Vick ever did in any season that he played. Kyler may have had better rushing production in 2020 than Hurts did in 2021 but he couldn't sustain that (although sustaining production like that as a QB is very rare obviously) and I don't see the Cardinals trending back in that direction now that they have Conner in the backfield tbh. Hopkins being suspended for the beginning of the year (and my lack of trust in Hollywood Brown's talent as a receiver) along with the rushing usage differences give the edge to Hurts for me here in terms of short-term production (aka this season)

Long-Term Situation - I like Hurts here as well because of the younger/more talented receivers he has (Devonta/Brown/Goedert vs. Rondale/Hollywood/Hopkins/Ertz) as well as one of the top offensive lines in the league but I have to give it to Kyler simply because of contract/draft capital/team investment, he's much more likely to be a starter in this league going forward (although personally I think it's a mistake if the Eagles move on from Hurts so quickly but unfortunately that might not be the case).

Talent - I think as a rusher for fantasy purposes I would lean Hurts here since I think he'll be able to retain the high amount of goal-line usage that he had last year and we've already seen the Cardinals take a step back in regards to that with Kyler. As a passer Kyler takes this one although I will say I think Hurts gets a lot more hate in regards to his passing play than is warranted, yes he has some boneheaded plays out there and doesn't have as much consistency as I would like (yet) but he's very aggressive in how he attacks the opposing defenses and when it pays off it pays off big. Overall it's definitely Kyler in terms of talent (especially since he's shown that he *can* rush just as well/often as Hurts does I just don't think the Cards want him doing that).

Value - This is easily Kyler and I don't think it's that close as much as I like Hurts. Two biggest things that matter for dynasty value are talent and long-term situation and Kyler has both of those in spades, both in a vacuum and compared to Hurts.

Murray all day for me. Hurts has glaring issues still throwing the football, seems destined to be Mariota 2.0.

I think Kyler is a little more polished as a passer. However, I think the price difference between the two is greater than the actual gap in production will be over the next couple years. The danger in Hurts being replaced is what creates that gap. So there is value in that doubt. The longer Hurts is a starter, the more valuable he becomes. I would trade Kyler for Hurts+ in a heartbeat...especially as an Eagles fan :D

I can def agree with this, if I own Hurts I'm not trading to get Kyler because of the price tag and if I own Kyler I'm gonna need the Hurts owner to add a fair bit to get him from me.
