Freiermuth value?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Freiermuth value?

Postby esulek80 » Mon Nov 08, 2021 9:23 pm

Is Pat Freiermuth worth a late 2022 1st rd pick? Last week I reached out to the guy in my league who has him asking what he would want for him and was told he thought he has a big chance to be top 10 or 5 TE but that he's at a loss at what he wanted. He then added that he felt like a 1st is too much but a 2nd isn't enough.

Obviously after his 2 TDs tonight his thoughts have probably increased. Would it be foolish to give up a late 1st (likely somewhere between 1.08-1.12) for him in a 1 QB .5 PPR 12 team league?

I'm not desperate for a TE as I already have Hockenson but I have been really wanting to upgrade my TE2 with Jonnu Smith basically being a shell of himself from last season. I'm deep at WR (see signature) and with picking late in the 1st I'm thinking my chance of getting a good RB is very unlikely. I don't know much about the 2022 TE class but my understanding is maybe there is 1 or 2 solid guys but are they at the level of Freiermuth?

He looks really good since getting more opportunity. The 2022 class does not look great but I'm not sure you need to make the deal with having Hockenson already.

I'm desperate at TE and have been trying to buy him for weeks so I'm interested to see what the community is thinking on value here.

I have Freiermuth and I also believe he’s going to be a very good fantasy TE. Problem is who is going to be throwing him the ball next year. Ben definitely is building a great rapport with him. For pick’s I’d want a 1st. He’s young, highly touted and not yet in his prime.

I have the chance to "raid" him in our league for a first, sadly the first I have is trending early so I really think that's too much

If I could get him for a late 1st or early 2nd I would. Even if its just for a push for this year

Early 2nd for me ever since juju was hurt Freiremuth has been taking more targets and hes on the positive side of variance for Tds . I'd wait and buy when he's not hot

I was really impressed with what I saw in his blocking game. That alone will keep him on the field. I am not giving up a 1st when I have Hock though

i dont think many PF owners are selling for less than a 1st. Hes been hyped up since the draft and has only delivered and looked every part the full time blocker/playmaker in the process. Absolutely smash accept if you can get for less than a 1st

I feel like Freiermuth was overlooked in last year's draft class because of the mega hype around Pitts (for good reason, obviously). I was able to nab him at the end of the 2nd round last year in a TEP league. Not sure how that happened but glad it did. His current situation is a bit TD dependent and there's still uncertainty after Big Ben is done, but I think I would probably be willing to sell him for a mid-first in TEP. A late 1st to early 2nd in non-TEP leagues feels like decent value for both sides.

Honestly, moving on from Big Ben and his play right now might be a positive. Whoever it is......

I got him with pick 2.05 last draft so would be looking for a first minimum for him right now (we are TEP). Given the time it takes for TEs to really come into form, I have no problem waiting out another season with whoever comes in, even if temporary, next year. His QB the following season should be much more stable.

I also dont think there is a 'trade for him while not hot' scenario here. Pat F owners got him somewhere in the 2nd will just put their feet up and wait if he struggles, not simply move on from one of the better TE's in the last few years (and through '22 class) for an undersell.

So I just ended up making the trade and got Freiermuth in the deal. The final terms will sound like total overpay but I'll explain my reasoning behind it.

I got Freiermuth for my 2022 2nd, 3rd, 4th rd picks (all likely late rd picks in the 08-12 range) and Julio Jones but I did NOT have to give up my 1st rd pick which is what sold me.

Reasons why I offered so much.

1. The way my league is configured for the past 3 years I have not even been able to keep my 3rd and 4th rd picks because of team depth and roster size restrictions. Plus I have another 3rd rd pick that will be early 3rd so if somehow I would be in a position to keep a player taken in the 3rd I still have a pick there. To add to all that I'm hearing this 2022 class is not a great one.

2. Julio Jones was the kicker in the offer and he has been a roster clogger with my depth at WR. I was never coming close to starting him. I wanted to capitalize now before he has absolutely no value going into future seasons. Plus the guy has AJ Brown so he's looking at it like Julio is like an insurance policy for him if Brown goes down.

3. Although I have Hockenson I have no faith in Jonnu Smith behind him and Hockenson seems to always have little injuries popping up so I feel like I was playing with fire having no one of confidence behind him. There are absolutely no promising free agent TEs available to add in a 12 team 24 man roster league.

4. I'm not so sure any TE coming out in 2022 will be as promising as Freiermuth. Especially one that I just may of been able to take with that 2nd rd pick that was in the deal. Also taking another WR with that late 2nd rd pick would just clog my roster further and I do not think it is likely that a good RB with much potential (which is my biggest need) could be had there with that late 2nd rd pick.

So based on what I explained there I more look at this trade as Freiermuth for a 2022 2nd and Julio since I would never use the 3rd and 4th rd picks. Thoughts? Was it still a bad move on my part after explaining my reasoning further?

I have no issues with this trade at all. Long term, Freiermuth could be a really solid producing TE for basically a 2nd round pick. 3rd and 4th round picks have very little market value and Jones is not a good asset at all anymore. I am not even sure he is worth a late 2nd to a contender. I would not have let the extra late picks or Jones hold up this deal.
