2022 vs 2023 class

Postby icemic » Fri Sep 17, 2021 5:13 am

Admittedly, I don’t follow college football all that closely. That said I’ve heard that the 2023 class is far superior to the 2022 class. I’ve started make moves to get 2023 1st round picks, but I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing by getting out of 2022 in order to get 2023 picks. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

The 2023 class looks very strong as of now and the hype is already growing in the community which means pricey/big pick value as the future draft approaches. The 2022 class looks pretty weak overall with little solid depth as of now. Getting 2023 picks now is a smart move.

This is always a tough balancing act. It reminds me of the 2019 class vs the 2020 class from a few years back. By the time the 2019 draft rolled around in my leagues it was taking an early 2019 1st to acquire what should have been a mid-late 2020 1st, which honestly looks silly in hindsight. Just like the 2019 class contained players like DK, AJB, McLaurin, Montgomery, Sanders, Jacobs, Henderson, Hockenson, Fant, etc. the 2022 class will no doubt have some impact fantasy players that should be able to help owners as early as next season.

That said, now is a good time to acquire 2023 picks if you are high on that class, but make sure you're getting a solid return in doing so. Don't just trade a 2022 1st straight up for a 2023 1st unless the 1st you're getting is all but a lock to be early. Hammer home the fact that you're moving a 1st back in order to gain additional draft capital or players on top of the 2023 1st coming back to you.

I haven't heard that the '22 class is bad, moreso that the '23 class looks really strong - especially with 3-4 potential stud RBs. I've heard the '22 class is WR heavy, similar to the '21 class.

Just like the 2019 class was bad(jacobs, Monty, ajb, dk, etc) the 2018 was something special(sony, royce, kerryon, guide, Zay jones, etc). Realistically yes some classes are better than others but generally speaking they're A. Fairly close and B. We're bad at picking out why they're good. If you can get it at normal two years out first value go get those picks if you like the guys but don't just buy them for the sake of buying them.

I think the major appeal of the 2023 class is the stud RBs.

Bijan Robinson, Jamhyr Gibbs, and Tank Bigsby are all considered to be blue-chip RB prospects. Not on Saquon's level, but better than any 2021 RB prospect (Harris / Etienne / Williams) and on-par, if not better, than the 2020 class that included Dobbins / Taylor / CEH / Swift / Akers.

Isaiah Spiller & Breece Hall are nice RB prospects in the 2022 class, but definitely not in the same tier of prospects as the '23 RBs.

Just remember that a lot can happen between now and 2023, including injuries and players deciding to stay in college another year.

Everyone loved the 2020 class but it could have had additional players in it too like Etienne, chubba (coming off his big year), smith, and Harris.

I'm certainly not a dedicated college football person but it's important to remember that not every promising prospect comes out as soon as they can.

Seems like there isn’t a huge correlation between what we think of the class pre draft and how it turns out a year or two later

2022 class looks really weak. 2023 looks much better right now.

In this came I'm keeping the picks. That's much more late 2nd/early 3rd for a 2nd and 3rd

I rejected and can potentially make a draft day trade if I have ‘my guy’ at that position in the draft.
