Wow! HArd to imagine the NFL without one of its most colorful owners...I was never a fan but he was dedicated to a fault!!! He made the Raiders what they are and back in the late 1960's through the '80's, they were a team to be reckoned with! As a Steelers fan, they were a tough opponent and I never liked playing them! For every good guy and hero in the NFL, Davis was Dr Evil to most....RIP Al Davis!!!

For those of you who are youngsters Al Davis is true NFL icon. A maverick who was not afraid to challenge the NFL. Pivotal in the AFL-NFL merger.

His record of success speaks for itself.

Godspeed, Al.

Indeed, glad to see it, as a fellow Terp I was hoping he would become a good player, who knows, maybe he will still break out

RIP

I thought his renegade attitude was good for the league, there have been some great Raider teams in the past thanks to him

A cool thing I read about Al Davis was how they chose Silver and Black in the first place, as Silver was chosen, as Davis respected the Detroit Lions organization, and Black was chosen in honor of the U.S. Army

Al Davis contributed a lot (understatement) to the game of football as we know it in the U.S. Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. RIP, Mr. Davis.

I heard that just before he passed he said, "just die baby" with a smile. Tastless? Perhaps, but it made me chuckle when I heard it.
