James Jones Staying with Pack.

Postby stingray_76 » Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:17 pm

"Packers agreed to terms with WR James Jones on a three-year contract.
It's hard to love from a fantasy perspective, but Aaron Rodgers and Donald Driver reportedly "went to bat big time for Jones," which may have played a role in GM Ted Thompson's decision to pull the trigger. Jones, 27, posted career bests in catches (50), yards (679), and touchdowns (5) last season while playing in a near-even rotation with Jordy Nelson. That rotation is going to continue this year, which will keep both wideouts as inconsistent fantasy options. It's good news for Rodgers, but bad news for Nelson and Driver."

as a packers fan, couldn't be happier.
as a James Jones owner, not so much.......

As a Packers fan I would have liked to see them send him packing and give our new stud Cobb the opportunity.

Pretty much kills what little value Jones and Nelson might have had for 2011.

Agreed. Jones has the talent to be a nice complement to (Insert some legitimate #1 WR here), but the timeshare in Green Bay is maddeningly inconsistent. I think Nelson has slightly more value than Jones, given that Jones has a problem with dropping passes, but the only WR really worth owning in GB at the moment is Greg Jennings.

anybody hear what the specifics of the deal are other than a 3 year deal?
just wondering if he got the "starter money" he was after?

"7/31/2011: Signed a three-year, $9.4 million contract. Included in the deal is a $1.5 million signing bonus. 2011: $1.3 million (+ $950,000 roster bonus), 2012: $2.3 million (+ 200,000 roster bonus), 2013: $2.95 million (+ $200,000 roster bonus), 2014: Free Agent"

would you call this the starter money Jones was after??
what would this salary tell us about his position in the Packer WR pecking order??
