Well, as discussed and speculated he's opened camp as the #1 option for the first couple of days. Will he hold off Penny heading into the season? Time will tell, but it's Carson's job to lose (or Penny's to overtake him) at this point. Both backs will have a role in 2018 health permitting.

I think it’s like most rookies, they usually don’t just hand them the job but I would think that Penny would have to look terrible to not start over Carson, fairly early in the season, jmo.

As alluded to above, most rookies are not #1 entering training camp.

If this is still the case in the beginning of September, then it is something to see.

For now it is meaningless.

On the first day, yes, I read that too, but the coach hasn't handed him the starting job, was my point, sorry for the confusion. He's stated it's an open competition. Rob Kelly is also out, day to day at this point.

Carroll was talking up Carson big today in his rehab and coming back from injury etc, then ended it off with how he was a very special guy for their special teams, so who knows what to think at this point. I expect Penny to be the lead back, and be spelled quite often early on, I would expect that if Penny develops as the way he should, that he'll get the bulk of the work at some point this year.
