Deep Sleepers - 2018 Edition

Postby Servo » Sun Jun 10, 2018 7:48 pm

Who are you targeting with those late round picks and or Preseason FAAB?

I think I've swayed more towards big time college producers and have been acquiring or keeping tabs on:

- Justin Watson TB
- Jordan Lasley BAL
- Cedrick Wilson DAL
- Richie James SF
- He'll be buried heavily but Phillip Lindsay DEN
- Trey Edmunds NOS as a pure hailmary (not a college producer lol)
- JT Barrett/Taysom Hill NOS, can't imagine much coming from here but what the hell.

What about you?

I like a lot of the guys you listed. Here are my deep stashes that I own in a 14 team SF league with 25 man regular season rosters (50 man off-season roster), and a 4 man taxi:

RBs:
Gus Edwards, BAL
Jarvion Franklin, PIT
Trey Edmunds, NO
Ryan Nall, CHI

WRs:
David Moore, SEA
Richie James, SF
Jordan Lasley, BAL
Allen Lazard, JAC

I stashed Moore and Edmunds last year midseason. I picked up all of the rest of those guys besides Nall (who I drafted in the 4th) on waivers after the rookie draft to stash through the preseason.

Jordan Lasley, Bal
Sam Hubbard, Cin
Jerome Baker, Mia

Vance McDonald is only a sleeper in 8-10 team leagues. He should be owned in all 12+ team leagues.

He's not even close to fitting the description of "deep sleeper."

Justin Watson
Daurice Fountain
Trey Quinn
Cedrick Wilson
Justin Jackson
Boston Scott
Jaylen Samuels
Jordan Akins

In no particular order. I consider these dudes the deepest dives that still legitimately intrigue me -- other than Watson, these guys aren't even getting picked in many of the 6-round drafts and mocks I've seen posted around the net so far.

I'm not sure Watson really qualifies, he may not actually be under the radar enough.

"Should be" doesn't mean he is. He's also about the 28th ranked TE on DLF, so I'd say he very much qualifies as a deep sleeper! Certainly not owned in my 12 team league, but a guy I'll be looking at in our rookie/FA draft
Dynasty - 9th year, 12-team, Standard scoring, 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2FLEX, 1K, 1DE/DT, 1LB, 1CB/S - 25man roster / 6 Taxi Squad
'17 Champ, '18 Runner Up, '23 rebuild

QB Watson, A Richardson, O' Connel (TS)
RB Gibbs, Akers, Dillon Carter, Bigsby, Chase Brown, Mcintosh, Tucker, Hull (TS)
WR Metcalf, DJ Moore, Addison, Meyers, Van Jefferson, Collins, Claypool, Mingo (TS), Hyatt (TS), Wilson (TS)
TE Higbee, Freirmuth, Otton (TS)
K Joseph
DE/DT Hunter
LB Franklin Simmons
C/S James

Hahaha I hope your being sarcastic snaps!

OMG Vance McDonald, the TE #52 in 2017, and TE that's never finished higher than #25 isn't rostered! that's insane! lol

Vance is the definition of a deep sleeper, such a deep sleeper that he shouldn't even be rostered in 12 team leagues, let alone 8-10 teamers! The guys gonna be 28, and has done virtually nothing (aside from the odd game or two). Yes he might have some appeal because he's on Pitt, but they have this little thing called depth. He'll be behind Brown, Bell, Juju, and likely Washington in terms of targets.

Now anyone can be argued to be a deep sleeper, because that's what a deep sleeper is a guy who has pretty much done nothing so far...but to argue that he should be rostered in 8-10 team leagues! then chastise the poster...that was a good laugh.

Nah I actually was serious, his name has been all over a lot of the podcasts I've been listening to. I thought he wasn't a secret at all any more and it sounds like Pitt is really high on him, which is why they didn't draft a TE. I apologise, though, I overexaggerated a bit for sure with the 8-10 team league comment haha. He just didn't fit my personal description of "deep" sleeper. I was thinking about guys that are literally fighting for a roster spot, may not even make the 53 man roster, but have the metrics or depth chart opportunity to succeed. McDonald is locked into a roster spot and will 100% be the featured pass-catching TE, which is why I didn't consider him a "deep" sleeper.

I don't think he qualifies as a deep sleeper for most, but I think DaeSean Hamilton is gonna see the field early and often as a rookie. I've had a couple of drafts where he's gone right in the Lasley/Jaylen Samuels range.

Guys who come into the league as refined route runners and don't make mistakes usually see the field a lot and earn the trust of their coaches and QBs easier than the high upside athletic guys **cough** Carlos Henderson **cough**.

Don't be surprised if he sees a lot of love from Keenum, who had a pretty good rapport with the last slot WR he worked with.

Vance's name has been sprouting up in a lot of places but surprisingly, people seem to forget that Jesse James is still in Pittsburgh too...and as of today is listed as their TE1.
