Interesting conundrum in our rookie draft

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Interesting conundrum in our rookie draft

Postby metalmat » Mon May 07, 2018 7:28 pm

So I don't really have a pick until rather late at 2.13 (27 overall) as I traded my 1st last season and we can pick anyone from the player pool. We are still in the 1st round at the moment and I was browsing the available free agents and to my surprise Philip Rivers is available. I kind of want to pick him up and I think the other owners in our league are still a bit asleep at wheel, should I spend my 2nd round pick or just wait until later? I think he might fly under the radar.

if this is 1QB then theres a reason he is on the Waivers....I'd pray a guy like Anthony Miller or Michael Gallup is there at 2.13 and if not then I'd take Mayfield/Darnold/Jackson/Rosen over Rivers at the 2.13

Alright, thanks for the help. I'll go ahead and leave Rivers on the bench until later. It's a 1 QB league but still.... kind of surprising a QB like Rivers is a FA in a 14 team league, it's not like he sucks.

It doesn’t look like your league uses a massive bench. Thats likely the reason why he’s available. Tbh imo you already have too many QBs on your roster, I personally like to just run with one legit QB, then pick up a streamer for my bye week. In comparison to rostering 3 QBs like you currently are (or 4 if you pick up another, please don’t unless you move someone else prior), you’d have 2 additional roster spots, thus allowing u to be much more active with the waiver wire. This would give you the opp to pick up random guys that pop up every yr, for example last yr it was (for short benchs: woods, goodwin, collins, cohen, clement, carson, asj, cole, westbrook). Even if you don’t like those guys, you can always pick them up, then sell while thr iron is hot. Anyways, just thought that might provide some insight as to why, some seemingly good QBs are available.

And why you shouldn’t select Rivers.

Agree with everyone else, especially since you have Wentz and Carr already. If your QBs were bad, then I can see maybe reaching for him there.

I appreciate the insight. I'm actually going to be dropping Foles as part of the rookie draft so I will just have Wentz and Carr. I agree with you that those 2 are good enough to roll with. Thanks for all the help guys before I made a bad decision, much appreciated!
