Calvin Johnson hurt. I had decided I was going to keep him as I pictured a Fitzgerald career swan song. I usually trade em. I traded Brees for Rodgers. Already working on his replacement. Running backs, always looking to cut bait as their peaking. I had McCoy when he was drafted in my startup, just traded him this past season. My last original player.

I don’t mind it, but I try and shop the heck out of them as that time nears. I traded Olsen for Marqise Lee this year as the Olsen retirement talk was getting louder. Lee is solid and a good bit younger and should serve a a decent #1 WR for a middling passing game. Olsen probably has another TE1 season in him but I think he hangs it up after this season.

It’s tough to part with players you love and helped you win previously. Other than a Steve Smith, I have avoided having players retire on my squad mostly

depends on the player obviously , 1st thing that came to mind was the old john mckay quote when asked what he thought of his team's execution mckay said " I am in favor of it" retirement is the same for some guys the sooner the better . I have made some serious dynasty hay over the years grabbing up old guys that the youth chasers have given up on and using them to win titles .

I'm fine with it for some players. Gronk is never going to net me Fair Value, and as long as he's still playing he's a real difference maker. I'd be more happy if we could add a 'R' (Retired) spot like IR in MFL... for guys who retire early and you're worried might come back one day, like lynch, Megatron for some, and Gronk now if he retires. Would be galling to see him retire this year, then get picked up next year for free by another team after he announces a comeback

If you're a contender, certainly. A guy like Gronk or Shady (or Julio even it seems now) will put up 2018 championship winning production. I'm not gonna sell that for a super late first if I have a chance to win said championship. I would even buy those players as my RB/WR3 if that's what puts me over the edge to win it all. We're here to win some years even if you sacrifice no getting that late 1st value back if he does retire, not just have the best looking team on paper year after year

I prefer having HOF guys retire on my team. Normally selling the old producers is a losing bet so I am fine holding and competing using a roster that appears unfit in May/June

As long as they're bringing it and making you more than relevant in the league, I have no problem with holding till retirement. But.....if someone is hard up and makes a rediculous offer for your long in tooth stud you probably have to pull the trigger.

I'm ok with it. My contenders rely on scooping up aging producers as they decline in trade value. Sometimes they retire. Usually at least once.

It depends on the situation. I always try to gauge the situation and if I see that a player declines in value, I trade it just like what Goddard said.

Not usually, but Larry Fitz is a perfect example. I took an orphan that is a contender. The only people that are interested, are other contenders. I'm only getting offers of 3rd rounders, etc. Much rather keep him for that price, and give another team a guy that could put them over the top on me.

I don't see a problem as long as they have been productive for your team. With that in mind I'd like to thank Jason witten! I don't have a diamond incrusted football to give you but this will have to do. 👍

A player retiring on your team is a "mistake." It means you are losing value. Ideally, you trade that player right before they retire, but that's not very easy to do. Usually it isn't a big deal.

What is the value in my example? Competing team. Give Fitz to another contender, and get back a future late 2nd? How do you factor in the value of the loss of production and the gain in production for another contender? What if it's the difference between a Championship or not? Genuinely interested in your take on this example.
