Moving back in the draft

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Moving back in the draft

Postby Weber27 » Sat Feb 10, 2018 9:26 am

The 2019 Draft Class is going to be loaded with WR's. I have 2 1sts in 2019 already but to ensure I can land multiple WR's I was thinking about trading back from my 1.05 this year which could be, James Washington or Calvin Ridley to try and get an additional 2019 1st and possibly 2nd's in 2018.

I am able to give 1.05 and 2019 3rd for 2.02, 2.06 (or Robert Woods) and 2019 1st (he finished 6th this year, next year possibly 3-7 outside of Bell he doesn't have enough strong players to compete, could possibly make the playoffs at best).

Would you stay at 1.05 or take the package of 2nds and additional 2019 1st?

I would wait to closer to draft to get more leverage. I also have 1.05. So I am going to ask for either a low 1 and a second rounder or a low 1 and a good young player. If I can’t get that i’ll just draft a really good running back and package him later.

I like it. Good theory packaging the player you get at that spot for a WR later.

May have a shot at getting WR Mike Williams and a 2019 1st for 1.05 and 2019 3rd. This would be better value than the 2nds right?

Take the trade. Your goal is to get 1st-round picks in 2019; this accomplishes that goal fairly. Yes, maybe you could get a better "value" later, but you have no idea if that would include a 1-round pick in 2019 or even a better one. Plus, with 2.02 and 2.06, you have ammo to use those to try to trade for a late 2019 1st when on the clock.

If your goal is to maximize value for 1.05, then I agree with waiting. If your goal is to leverage 1.05 into a similar 2019 1st, then this accomplishes your goal perfectly. The name of the trading game is usually value, but not always. Make your move.

I wouldn't pull the trigger now. I think this pick will get more valuable. Maybe you could eventually get two future 1st?

I’d wait too. Wait to people get juiced at draft time.

The 1.05 is too far back to see any change in value. But if you're thinking about trading back, that's something I prefer to do during the draft. I do nearly all of my trading both up and down during the draft. Everything is very fluid at that time and you can maximize the value of what you have. If you're targeting WR, I'd be avoiding the 2018 class. When the draft comes, move down in steps. A couple spots here and there and get yourself some extra picks this year and next. This specific move is premature. You can probably still get to this point with a trade from 1.05 but get more in return for it.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

I would keep the pick for now. As the draft approaches/post combine owners usually get more and more into certain players and will likely pay more in my opinion. Is there anyone in your league with multiple 2019 1st's? Maybe someone would move multiple picks to get into the 1.05 this year if they need an RB.
