Re: The problem with Amari
Cooper has been nothing short of atrocious through 1/4 of this season.
Continuing to have drops and concentration issues.
Defenses are putting their best corners on him and he isn't winning 1 on 1 matchups. He's also being doubled very often but when he isn't doubled he isn't winning the matchup.
Crabtree is drawing the number 2 corners and eating them alive but defenses don't care and continue to stick to taking Cooper away.
Today Cooper got out-jumped to end to the game on an interception. I saw some people say the DB that intercepted it, had a way better vert jump than Cooper at the combine and is very athletic. But ya know I don't really care?
Cooper was the 4th overall pick because he was a refined route runner/technician and virtually caught everything in college.
He was drafted number 4 to win one on one matchups with DBs. He was drafted number 4 overall to still find ways to get open when double covered/safety over the top. He was drafted number 4 overall to be a reliable pass catcher, not someone who has bad drops multiple times in a game.
And Amari Cooper was the 4th overall pick, because when the game is on the line and a 50/50 pass gets thrown his way he either is gonna come down with it or it's going to be incomplete.
Period, end of story, he has not played well at all and looks like just another receiver in the NFL out there. It's downright embarrassing and whatever it is that's slowing him down, whether it be physical, mental, something else, I hope he gets it figured out or he's gonna go from a young budding star and top 10 ADP guy to the WR version of TRich bust

Re: The problem with Amari
I don't own Cooper anywhere, so there's no bias here, but you can't blame him for that jump ball INT to end the game. It was an awful throw. If that was even remotely outside, I'm sure Cooper catches it. It was inside and right into the hands of the DB. Cooper didn't have a good angle on it at all and he did try to break it up, although not successfully. Sometimes DB's win the battle, especially when the ball is thrown right at them.
With that said, if I owned Cooper, I'd be awfully nervous right now. As a guy who doesn't own Cooper, I'm intrigued by what I can possibly offer to get him.

Re: The problem with Amari
I put him and Dez on the trade block earlier. Crickets. Not even a low ball offer...

Re: The problem with Amari
QB throws it on a rope and Amari has a chance but he puts too much air under the throw and the safety has time to get over. 40 inch vertical beats a 33 inch vertical almost every time.steelman wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:09 pm I don't own Cooper anywhere, so there's no bias here, but you can't blame him for that jump ball INT to end the game. Of course odds are that Amari drops it even if it was a perfect throw but blaming him for the play is just wrong.

Absolutely he's still an extremely talented WR, but there's legit risk in buying him. I wouldn't pay more than 2 Firsts at this point.

Re: The problem with Amari
The difference in vertical wasn't the only problem. Where that ball was caught was well within Cooper's range. I'd be fine if Simmons had just out-jumped Cooper, but what I saw was Simmons out-positioning Cooper. Cooper let up on the play and was waiting for the ball to come to him like he wasn't even aware that Simmons existed. The throw was a terrible decision by Manuel, and while I wouldn't blame Cooper for the pick, he had the time and saw the ball the whole way and should've had better positioning to at least try to box out Simmons. Instead he gave up the inside, timed his jump too early and I'm not even sure he got a hand on the ball.onetwothree wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:28 pmQB throws it on a rope and Amari has a chance but he puts too much air under the throw and the safety has time to get over. 40 inch vertical beats a 33 inch vertical almost every time.steelman wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2017 9:09 pm I don't own Cooper anywhere, so there's no bias here, but you can't blame him for that jump ball INT to end the game. If you believe in him, sure, I guess..
Personally I would not touch him.
He has been awful for at least 13 games and counting.

Re: The problem with Amari
But, but...he is only 23 and already has two 1,000 yard seasons, and an elite QB. Crabtree won't be around forever and then Cooper will be a Top 5 guy for 5-6 years...right!!!!
Nothing to see here...his breakout will be in year 4.

Re: The problem with Amari
I got Cooper this off-season for a decent amount (Crabtree, K. Mack thinking he would get switched to LB in my scoring but he is still a DE, and a 4th) and he has rounded out my list of "completely under-achieving WRs" to go along with Sammy, JMatt, Maclin, Snead. If it wasn't for Diggs I wouldn't have a WR in the top 30 of scoring so far.

Re: The problem with Amari
Cooper has never been much of a jump ball guy. I considered Kevin white over him for that reason and upside. I usually don't go conservative but white had that huge bust factor.
Cooper will be fine long term but I doubt he ever sniffs wr1 status.
