OTC startup - need advice

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

OTC startup - need advice

Postby Hambone » Wed Jul 19, 2017 7:00 am

Currently in the 3rd round of a startup, my first 2 picks were OBJ and Dez. 12 tm PPR, standard lineups (QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, 1 Flex)...best players available:

RB-Shady, Murray, Mixon (all rookie RBs except LF), L.Miller
WR-Jordy, Baldwin, DT, K.Allen, Jeffery, D.Adams
TE-All except Gronk

Is it too early to go with Mixon here? My next pick is not until early 5th (I traded back a few picks from the 4th to 5th to move up to snag OBJ in the 1st), but I do have 2 picks in the 5th. If not Mixon, then who? Thanks

If Mixon is "your guy" at RB then that is who you take. There is a difference between ADP (average) and your own draft. If you want Mixon, you aren't getting him in the 5th round so if he is your preferred RB and that is the way you want to go with this pick then that is the "correct" choice. I would not have made Dez my pick in the 2nd round.

I got Dez at 2.09, which I thought to be really good value. I did pass on Watkins and Cooks though to take him. I have both guys in quite a few leagues and like to spread my risk around, plus I have questions on both guys. And all the top RBs were already gone (including guys like Ajayi, Howard, Gordon, LF, etc)....And I know if I wait till the 5th, I'm not getting any decent RB.

DT has outscored Dez in 4 of the last 5 seasons yet for some reason never is ranked ahead of him. It makes zero sense. But it's what makes DT great value year in and year out and will continue to be that way.

I'd go Mixon here. I'm a KA believer but there's still good value at WR. The RB pool will shrink considerably between now and your next pick.

Dez has dealt with some injuries though to be fair, and also had to deal with some shaky QB play before this past season with Romo being hurt. I also expect Prescott to be even better this year...but you're right, DT is undervalued.

That's my thinking too. After Mixon, it gets shallow quickly as I don't want to invest a high pick in Murray, Shady or Miller...

Yeah, agreed. RBs will be a wasteland by time my 5th rolls around

It's Mixon pretty easily for me here. Regardless of roster construction, I have him as my 1.01 rookie this year and as a top 15 RB in redraft. He should be able to contribute this year plus he should be a top asset for the next 5 years.
Team 1 - 12 team PPR
QB: MRyan, MJones, CNewton, RFitz
RB: SBarkley, DSwift, CAkers, JMixon, AJDillon, LMurray, DarWilliams, GBernard
WR: SDiggs, ACooper, BAiyuk, JJones, LShenault, BCooks, KToney, KHamler, VJefferson
TE: JSmith, ISmith, ZErtz

Team 2 - 16 team, PPR, SF
QB: JBurrow, CWentz, ZWilson, Jimmy G
RB: SBarkley, DSwift, CAkers, BSnell, TGurley, DGuice
WR: JChase, BAiyuk, CSutton, THiggins, JJeudy, JReagor, BEdwards
TE: ISmith, HarBryant, DSample, TTremble
