Wilson/1.03 for Gurley/Prescott

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Wilson/1.03 for Gurley/Prescott

Postby SmiceHiggins » Tue May 16, 2017 6:33 am

I just completed a trade in my 2QB contract league where I gave up Wilson, 1.03, 2.07 and got back Gurley, Prescott, 2.02

Curious if anyone agrees with my thinking or absolutely hates it.

Short Term: I think Dak/Rivers/Stafford should be a solid trio of QBs so losing Wilson isn't a huge issue. I think Gurley can be just as good or mediocre this year as McCaffrey (the likely best RB available at 1.03 since LF/Mixon will go 1/2).

Long Term:
I think I should be able to resign Dak next year for ~$30 the rate at which most of the QBs outside of Luck/Wilson/Rodgers went for in our startup. If Gurley plays like his first 4 games with the new coaching staff instead of his last ~20 he'll probably be worth the same contract (on a short term basis), if that offense is still a dumpster fire I can probably get him for cheap and hope they figure it out.

A year from now I was either going to be in a bottom team with little cap room to make moves or back my way into the playoffs by striking gold in the draft. Now I'm still just as likely to be a bottom dweller or a playoff team but at least I will go into next season with a lot of cap room and some decent Restricted FA rights to some younger players.

To me Gurley and 1.03 are pretty even. After that, I'd much rather have Wilson over Dak than 2.02 over 2.07.

The trade comes down to the QBs in this type of league. If you think Dak is legit and will continue what he's done so far, this is a good trade to make. If however he struggles in year two as teams have more tape on him and an offseason to scheme defenses, then you lose big.

Yeah I agree, I think I'm taking on a big risk in giving up a more proven QB, hoping contract wise next offseason this will make me in a better position to not have as much invested. Having Rivers and Stafford helps giving up Wilson I guess

I don't like it. I love Dak, but in a 2QB league, Wilson is worth much more. Gurley and the 1.03 are fairly close. The 2nds don't make up the difference between the QBs.
