OCPunisher wrote: Fri Apr 21, 2017 9:51 am Unfortunately the draft is in Milwaukee and the family party is in Green Bay, so it is not possible to combine them. We chose to do this year's draft in Milwaukee as opposed to Madison for the three guys who normally have to travel every year.

We also already took a vote on what date to have the draft, and this one was the overwhelming majority.

EDIT: Doing both is also not an option due to my very young child.

I'm leaning towards telling the family that I have a prior commitment, especially since I've already squared it away with the wife. Just thought it would be a lighter story to share among this fine community of die-hards.
This makes for a fun forum discussion. Ultimately you have to decide which one you miss that you can live with. I'm of the mind set, that you let your yes, mean yes. I would have no problem telling them that you have prior arrangements. Although I bet when they find out it's for a fantasy football draft, they will have an interesting reaction. Family is family, and you said you all get along, so maybe they understand. Sounds like this might be the first one you miss...at least in awhile??? You say it will be anywhere between 50-100, does that mean that every year there are some family who can't make it? I'm sure the family can understand you missing one year. But like I said at the outset, it really comes down t which one you will be kicking yourself for if you miss it. Only you can answer that.

Added: Also, is your wife and kid(s) planning on going ti the draft city with you?

Family first ALWAYS. Wish I had a yearly reunion. Don't take it for granted. Shouldn't even be a question IMO but to each their own.

Family, not close.

Ask the Commish to reschedule. If not, then my condolences.

If you were single this would be a conundrum. You're married and you have a kid, the right answer is to go to the family party.

The only caveat I can see making a difference: does your wife not want to go to the family steak party? You mentioned that she's fine with you skipping it. Is that because she doesn't want to go?

I say get a divorce if your wife doesn't want to spend time with your family. Not really though. Make your wife and kid go to the steak dinner and you go to the draft.

In all seriousness though, I'd go with the family event. Just make sure next year you guys move the draft up or something.

I'd take steak on it's own over drafting, throw in a good time with some family and it's a deal.

I've lived in Madison and Green Bay and been to Milwaukee plenty of times and I would pick GB regardless of the food. Steak is just a bonus!

If you miss the steak dinner there will be another one next year. If you miss the draft you will suffer the consequences every week all season. Unless this is a dynasty league, then you can just trade your picks.
