Ishmael / Geathers
Ishmael / Geathers
Hi gents
Any thoughts on these two and prospects for 2016?
Kemal Ishmael
Played just 36% of snaps last year for the falcons but looked good when he got on the field.
Has no real competition for the starting SS spot right now with William Moore out of the picture and Allen playing more as a FS.
Seems like a prime tackle opportunity to me
Clayton Geathers
Mike Adams is 35 - if he still starts this year he'll likely miss time.
The staff reportedly love Geathers and he certainly plays like a true SS. Produced OK last year in limited snaps
Both seem like great pickups for me but interested if anyone has an opinion...

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
The draft will really tell us how the teams feel about these guys. I wrote an article last offseason where I mentioned Ishmael, because he's really been effective when he does get the time. However, if they draft a safety, they may not think he's a full time player. But, I'd say he's probably not on a lot of people's radar, heck, he's on the WW in my 16 teamer. I think he could be a nice sneaky pickup. I mean, he's only 24 years old.
Geathers is a different story. I think he's getting hyped up quite a bit and fits the mold of a good box safety. If you can jump on him quick, I see him just getting more expensive here on out. I could easily see him in the top 20 in tackle heavy leagues at the position, with top 10 upside. They don't have a whole lot to stop people in front of him, so I'd get on him ASAP.

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
Agree with above. Geathers is actually, at least in many leagues I'm in, to the point where you basically have to pay for his peak. Not really a great value in the leagues I'm in, considering he could easily fall short of top 20 status. This coming from someone that owns him in 80% of his leagues and drafted him as a rookie in most. Love him, but way too hyped.
Re: Ishmael / Geathers
Both decent WW options. If I had the choice of either, I'd go Geathers. As mentioned above, unless they start playing Luck at LB, he should have plenty of tackle opportunities.

I like Kemal, he played pretty well in 2014 when Moore was hurt. Hope he gets the shot at starting.

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
I know this is a zombie post, but was anyone else holding out hope for K. Ishmael to land or at least COMPETE for a starting SS gig in free agency?? I know I was disappointed to see him stay with ATL; he looked fantastic when on the field this past year.

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
I did indeed. And he paid off very nicely - or looks like he will going forwards. Ishmael had some good moments but obviously I wrote this post before they drafted Keanu Neal in the first round...
Still nice to see an old post that doesn't actively embarrass me

I just read an article where it stated that Falcons will be moving Ishmael to linebacker. Thoughts?

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
Whoa.. If he kept that DB tag that would be sweet. Do you have a link? First I have heard of this
Re: Ishmael / Geathers
He started one or two games last season as Will. I suspect his role will be playing sub package snaps in a role that could just as easily be defined as LB as S.
I still like him though. Worth a roster spot in deeper leagues. In shallow ones where you only need to roster starters then don't bother.

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
I would love to see it cited back to a reputable source, but this is intriguing and might be a buy low investment here to gamble that he stays designated as a Safety but plays some plays at LB.
In 2015 when Bucannon & Barron were designated on MFL as DB's but were lining up at LB they were top 5-10 options at the position. If I recall correctly MFL does its positional updates through the offseason/pre-season. If he makes it past there holding the DB designation and the coaching staff does use him in that hybrid role he could pay off like those boys did in 15.

Re: Ishmael / Geathers
I own one share of him in a very deep league, and the main thing I'm hoping for is that he is simply a full time player. Even with a LB designation.Death_From_Above wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 11:44 am I would love to see it cited back to a reputable source, but this is intriguing and might be a buy low investment here to gamble that he stays designated as a Safety but plays some plays at LB.

If he only plays as a part time LB, even keeping the S tag, he won't have much value (just look at Sorenson last year)
