What I've seen at the Senior Bowl so far...

Postby Coogan Football » Wed Jan 25, 2017 11:59 pm

So after 2 days of going to practices I think I've seen enough stuff to give you guys that updates you were asking for a while back, so here we go...

(These are gonna be very informal, I'm also gonna skip the obvious stuff- like how OJ Howard looks out here)

*More will be added after Thursday's practice sessions

Ryan Switzer WR UNC
- Looks really really quick in and out of breaks and his route running looks extremely crisp at this point of his football career. I've also heard that he's a great competitor and loves putting in hard work.

Kareem Hunt RB Toledo - Kid looks like a stud in 7on7. He runs hard and is silky smooth, somebody is gonna get a deal with this kid in the NFL draft. I briefly spoke to him after the early Wednesday practice and he seems like a good kid the is just happy to be out here competing.

Carlos Watkins DL Clemson - Absolute BEAST in 1on1 drills against the OLs. He dominated in each session so far, probably more than any other player here. He's huge, but also super quick of the line. I expect him to go in the 1st round in May.

Damontae Kazee CB SDSU - Great coverage skills and dominated every WR in his group when pressing at the line, very fun to watch him. A little undersized, but that doesn't seem to matter much, kid can ball.

Chad Kelly QB Miss - (injured. Not participating) Seems like he's a douche and his body language is horrible out here, I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing. He also is probably the only player here besides OJ Howard that I haven't seen doing any autographs at all, so maybe there's more behind it.

Travin Dural WR LSU - He honestly reminds me of Jarvis Landry a bunch so far. Doesn't have great speed or quickness, but he seems to keep winning on routes against DBs in drills regardless. Made a bunch of contested catches so far out here against some NFL caliber competition.

Coach Doug Pederson and GM Howie Roseman of the Eagles made it a point to walk all the way to the other end of the field to watch the South WRs running drills in Wednesday's afternoon session, they basically ran over there to make sure they got a good view and not miss anything. I definitely expect them to take a WR in the draft with how they acted today.

* I also was able to meet up with the guys from FootballGuys (Cecil, Waldman, Dr Jene) and talked about some of the prospects here in between the practice sessions today, that was the icing on the cake so far for me haha. For real though, those guys were great and a joy to hangout with for a while today!

I snagged some sweet autographs today, picture is on my Twitter, @bcoogan23

PS, if you guys have thought about coming down here you need to next year. This whole event is awesome and fans have access to basically everything. I literally sat 2 rows away from Ron Rivera in the stands this afternoon and could've walked right up to him.

Hotels on the beach where I live which is right across the Mobile Bay bridge are super cheap this time of year and its only a 45 minute ride to the stadium, you could probably stay on the beach all week for less than $400 and the water and weather is still awesome here. If you are interested in the future hit me up and I could give you the rundown on how everything is down here and what goes on and everything.

Sweet, thanks for the updates! How has Evan Engram looked? Twitter says he's looked pretty good, but I've read mixed reviews about what position he looks likely to be playing at the next level from those at the Senior Bowl. Some say move TE, some think he's really a WR. I think he moves really well and smoothly for a guy who's 6'3 1/8, and 236 lbs. As long as he doesn't get relegated to some crappy big slot a la Funchess role, that's all I hope for lol.

Nice work with this! I've given you a little grief in the past but this deserves some praise.

Thanks for posting this.

Do you think some of these guys are putting in extra effort and concentration with all eyes on them that is either not sustainable for their talent level or inconsistent with what they've put on tape so far?

How much stock do you put in what you're seeing when it's different from everything they've done before?

Lot of good names to make note of up there. Great share!

As a former college offensive lineman and now HS football coach, I will tell you that 1 on 1 pass rush drills are 75% slanted in favor of the defensive lineman. They are supposed to dominate in those drills and if they don't, that's what you should notice.
Chad Kelly......no surprise. Won't amount to much in the NFL IMO
