Rex Burkhead worth

Postby slaughterrt » Sun Jan 01, 2017 2:04 pm

Picked up Burk when Gio went down with the intention of trading him to a contender. Didn't happen and now it's basically the offseason for the majority of dynasty leagues. The ship has probably sailed but I would like to see what his current value is. My team is more so in the rebuild stage than competitive stage, so he really doesn't fit my team. I believe he is a FA this season so maybe he goes to another team and can be a committee type back? I'm not so jaded to think that he will be a full time starter somewhere, and he is no spring chicken.

I do however think he has real world value to football team, whether it be in Cinci or somewhere else. Does this translate into dynasty value at all?

He's a 'take anything you can get' guy when trying to trade him. He's not going to fetch you anything IMO. Maybe there is a glimmer of optimism after FA starts, but he will never be someone anyone is actively looking to acquire.

I've had him stashed eveywhere since last offseason and I've been banging the drum for him a lot.

You won't be able to get anything for him at this point and you likely won't be able to unless he performs next year on his new team.

I think he's very good and probably the best 3rd RB in the league.

I like him a lot as a PPR stash and if you have him - he is more valuable as a hold.

Could be a Bilal Powell/Woodhead/James White type player

But what is his worth today? He could be like those guys, but just like many of them before they 'broke out', I think his value is near nonexistent. That doesn't mean he can't become relevant in the future, but are people willing to pay anything out of belief he will become what you state he could? That I don't think is the case. Makes more sense as a free stash player. Maybe you can get a few bid dollars for waivers in an exchange, but I feel draft picks would be tough to acquire.

His value today is pretty much nothing. There were some forward thinking owners that saw Burkhead as an offseason stash back before the season even started, but the Gio injury put an end to some of those hopes and served to at least put Burkhead on the radar during the season.

As a Bengal, Burkhead is essentially worthless. Both Hill/Gio are under contract next season. The potential value with Burkhead is in him signing with another team in FA and carving out a more permanent role. I think he's a decent stash, and I'm holding onto him everywhere that I can until we see where he signs. If you're stashing him, you're pretty much hoping for the Toby Gerhart treatment. He went from worthless to fetching a high 2nd/late 1st in some cases, and all in the span of a few months during the offseason. If a similar scenario plays out with Burkhead, then it'll be a huge win for those stashing him.

Unfortunately, I couldn't generate any interest in him, and I don't have deep enough benches to keep him over others I've stashed. I will keep an eye on him next year and try to stash him late if possible.

Added him in a few leagues had no interest when he was on the block pre trade deadline. We'll see where the offseadon lies, he likely has zero value until he signs somewhere.

I think if he lands in a good spot like the Woodhead role in San Diego he could fetch late 2nd/early 3rd value but other wise he's more of a hold than anything. Saying that I can see him as a leverage throwin for trade talks (PPR) if he garners interest in FA.

I think Gerhart when I hear Burkhead. Sorry, no interest in this guy.

Picked him up when Gio went down. Dropped him at the last transaction window. Doubt I would've gotten anything in a trade and he wasn't picked up when transactions started again after the playoffs so I assume he'll sit there for awhile in my 14 team league.

Picked him up when Gio went down. Traded Gio for Powell after Gio went down. Luckily, I started Powell and Burkhead yesterday and they took me to the promised land! I'll keep Bulkhead as a stash hoping he lands in a good spot next year.

Unfortunately, Burkhead is probably a much better NFL than fantasy player. The Bengals have wasted his talent for 4 years behind the lackluster combo of Gio and Hill despite every offseason that they claim a top 5 backfield or some such nonsense.

Rex doesn't have great long speed (40 time confirmed) but he has much more burst than either of them, better vision and is a better route runner/receiver. IMO, he was their best runner and receiver at RB on that team, and now is basically free for some smart GM this offseason. Even if you like Gio, there is no way to justify his $5M/year price tag when I could have Rex for $1-2M/year. Smart teams don't pay that money for undersized, average RBs like Gio.

Rex is perfect for the "Dion Lewis" role as a RB, but could also be a workhorse in a pinch. He could also move to WR and be a helluva slot guy. I haven't even gotten into what he adds on special teams. He's not a transcendent talent, or a RB you build a team around, but he's a perfect RB for today's "specialized" roles and 2-3 RB backfields.

Burkhead is a hold because his value only lies in where he ends up. If the Pats, GB or maybe even Indy signs him then his value will skyrocket. If he re-signs in Cincy then his career is basically over.

I hope he ends up in NO. He'd also look nice in IND, SD, WAS, CHI or with Mcdaniels if he takes a job. I'd give a late 4th with reasonably deep rosters

I know it was one game, but IMO Burkhead>Hill. I doll like him as an early off-season stash until we see where he lands.
