Keep stud RBs? or #1 QB?

Postby meineymoe » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:50 pm

12 team league, no IDP, start QB, RB, 2 WR, TE, 2 Flex (RB, WR, TE), K, D/ST
25 rush or rec, 50 pass = 1 pt. TD = 6. Passing TD = 3.

We Keep 2, no restrictions.

My Keep-Worthy players are Aaron Rodgers, Frank Gore, Stephen Jackson, and Shonn Greene. With 24 protected players, there are usually 16-18 RBs, 2-4 QB, & 2-4 WRs off the board each year on average.

This year, I pick 3rd. I traditionally keep 2 stud RBs each year, but am considering Rodgers this year. If I do, one of Ryan Mathews and the two RBs I don't protect will be there at #3, as well as other potentials, though the stud RB selection is naturally thin.

Or, do I stick to my guns of landing three stud RBs (protect 2 and one at #3) and worry about QB later? We are a Packerland league, so Rodgers will not make it out of the early first round if I don't protect him.

I like Gore out of the three backs. If Sjax was in a better situation, I'd keep him. As much as I like Greene, I think you need to keep Rodgers. He's a young, elite QB that should be a top 3 QB for the next several years.
16 team league, non-PPR standard scoring plus bonuses. $200 cap
Schaub ($26/2014), Weeden ($5/2016)
McFadden ($35/2012), Richardson ($8/2018), Goodson ($2/2012), W. Powell ($2/2014), Taiwan ($5/2014) Bryce Brown ($2/2016)
Fitz ($32/2014), Nicks ($12/2012), DJax ($12/2013), Wayne ($12/2012) Collie ($8/2015), Hilton ($3/2014), Streeter ($3/2013), Hixon ($5/2012), Smith (STL $2/2015), B. Tate ($2/2012)
Gresham ($10/2016), Rudolph ($5/2015), Housler ($2/2017), C. Clay ($2/2015), Cooley ($5/2012)
Gostowski ($2/2015)
CAR ($3/2014), CIN ($2/2014)

I'd keep Gore and Rodgers, but I screwed up the poll selection and ticked Gore and Greene, so disregard one.

I would keep Gore and Rodgers and then nab the best RB/WR on the board with the 3rd pick. Not a big fan of QBs in leagues where you keep so few players but I just don't love SJax or Greene enough to keep them over Rodgers.
Start: 2 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE (All TDs=6, 1 per 10 rush/rec, 1 per 25 pass, NO PPR) 8 teams
QB: Rodgers, Vick, Cutler, Schaub, Luck
RB: Rice, CJ, McFadden, Richardson, Stewart, Ingram, Spiller, Vereen
WR: Green, Marshall, Roddy, Jennings, Roddy, Bowe, Maclin, Britt, A Brown, Williams (TB), Collie, Smith (STL)
TE: Graham, Finley, F Davis, Cook
Taxi Squad: Tebow, Crabtree, Jeffrey, Hill, Gordon

Stud RBs - keep 2 and take one @ #3...you can start all 3.

3 pts per passing TD, 1 pt per 50 pass yards, only able to start 1QB - I wouldn't even consider Rodgers. The point drop off is much bigger from top RB than top QB.

If you look at the poll, you can change your vote by simply making a different choice, and it will adjust your vote.

I would run SJax and Gore into the ground Terry...don't let the Packer "homer" inside you mess with what you already know...

This is your best plan...keep Gore and Jackson.

Ok, changed my vote to Gore and SJax - I completely missed the scoring for the league. Don't see any way you can keep a QB with those scoring rules.
Start: 2 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE (All TDs=6, 1 per 10 rush/rec, 1 per 25 pass, NO PPR) 8 teams
QB: Rodgers, Vick, Cutler, Schaub, Luck

I like Rodgers and Gore personally, but it'd be hard to pass on the SJax and Gore also.

Thanks for the input~
2 Stud RBs has always been my keeper strategy, so I'll probably go Gore/Jackson then for sure. I'll also be entertaining trade offers for Rodgers, since there are a few owners who like to have a stud QB, even though the scoring is RB heavy.

With Gore and SJax on your team, I am not really sure why Greene is in the poll... I selected the two of them, though there are definitely good arguments for Rodgers.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Just to get a sense of what people expect from Greene this season - we all know that Jackson could be run into the ground and miss a few games come playoff time, while Greene will have Tomlinson to spell him, which could make him a beast come fantasy playoff time. But, you gotta get to the playoffs first, and I think I agree that Jackson is the player to do that.
