Too much for Watkins?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Too much for Watkins?

Postby Mitchdp2 » Fri Mar 18, 2016 1:26 pm

Get: Watkins, Ebron, Hightower, 2.04
Give: Ryan Mathews, Jay Ajayi, Melvin Gordon, Brandin Cooks

Offered by him, concerned this destroys my RBs but I could draft one at 1.06 and 2.07, and it's generally easy to pick them off waivers. I am concerned about giving up cooks and that the jump for watkins is not wort it. I could also use the TE as a backup since Eifert gets hurt a lot
14 team, .5 PPR, 4pt passing TD, yardage + big play bonuses
1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB, 1 DP

QB: Rodgers, Jimmy G, Willis
RB: Ekeler, Jacobs, McKinnon, TDP, Murray
WR: Adams, Hill McLaurin, Duvernay, MVS, Julio, Osborn, Ross
TE: Higbee, Taysom, Fant, McBride
K: Bass
DL: Watt, Allen, Heyward
LB: Wagner, Leonard
DB: Jackson, Edwards, Adams

the only upgrade I see is your backup TE. To me, losing all that depth at rb isn't really worth it to jump from cooks to watkins. I think the value is close to equal (depending on how much you value gordon and ajayi) but I wouldn't do it based on your team. I see watkins as a better talent than cooks, but I really don't think their numbers will be that different for the next couple of years.

On paper it's not that bad. Basically saying Gordon = Ebron, Mathews = 2.04 and Cooks + Ajayi = Sammy. I'd try to do the offer with Cobb and see if that floats. I like Cooks much better and he didn't prove to be able to step up as a WR1 when Jordy was out, so doesn't provide much more than depth at this point.

Ended up striking a deal:

Gave: R Cobb, M Gordon, Ajayi, Ryan Mathews & 3.07
Got: Watkins, Ebron, T Hightower & 2.04

I feel as if I may have overpaid, but I got my man in Watkins. Thoughts?

Love this trade for you. Although both have value, both Ajayi and Gordon have concerns. You got the best player in the deal and Ebron has all of the talent you could ask for. Great trade in my opinion
